These are only as official as my poor short term memory:

Sat.

  1. Skeen (shocker)
  2. Johan S?
  3. Patton
  4. Geegar
  5. Robinson
  6. Taylor(? I think)

Sun.

  1. Skeen (yawn)
  2. T. Wilson
  3. Patton
  4. Robinson
  5. Taylor
  6. Geegar

Enduro
Malt Liquor Tech 34 laps
Triple X 27 laps
No e30’s finished the enduro, and I think only 3 cars total finished overall.

Craig’s new motor gave hope for everyone out there with a checkbook and proved that racing talent and driving skill aren’t everything. I’m kidding of course.

My race write-up will be on http://www.dtomracing.com in the next day or so.

A teaser - Johan, who’s last name escapes and who seems like a nice guy almost wadded his car up on the out lap during Sat. going off the track scrubbing tires. That was a definite first for me, of course he went on to finish 3rd so maybe it works.

If its who I think it is, its Johan Schwartz of Endurance Karting.

Congrats to Travis for taking the “best of the rest” on Sunday and to Craig, money well spent…

#3

Schwartz thats it. Good work JP.

We didn’t really miss you - … (actually I think Dave did).

And everyone had a great time, a really really fun great time. It was awesome.

I’m sure whatever you did this weekend was cool though.

You, Skeen, and Craig will all be moved the GT Spec E30 class - FYI.

IndyJen, ask JP how many Bed Bath and Beyond gift certificates he wants in exchange for his genuine cheater motor. To edit your first statement, I’m sure someone has video of the “hope for everyone out there with a checkbook” move I made into 10a on Sunday… The checkbook only gets you so far… Sorry Robert. (Good thing you’re a better racer than me.)

Props go out to my man Brendan Digel of RWL German Imports (BMW, Porsche, Benz, etc) and his long lost co-driver Jason “Cobra Style” Mascow (of Enzo’s Automotive Service for Jag’s and Rover’s) for their expertise in putting together the world’s most non-cheating cheating motor that makes Jim cry.

Real stories to follow tomorrow.

I’m going to drink your tears at Rockingham.

Really good shot too. I’ll get it boiled down and posted soon.

Travis will probably tell you he passed me today, twice, but it was only with the help of his a$$mate on I-85.

#8

Let’s all get the semantics correct here. It wasn’t ‘optimistic’ it was a guaranteed move into 3rd place. My car suffers from a talent starvation issue… It happens only at certain tracks, certain areas, under certain conditions. Nothing was uncertain in my mind.

Too bad for him Toyo doesn’t pay out on who gets home first.

Jim and I had a pretty decent battle down I-85 and I-285 until a hooptie van blew a tire in front of me… that was more drama than anything at the track all weekend!

I’ve got some good video of the Johan Schwartz School of Scrubbing which I’ll have up a little later.

Someone should have told me the BEFORE THE RACE not to copy Geiger. I decided to try the same line through 10a and b (although not for position)… I don’t think that’s the fast way.

As far as the racing went M3Bill and I battled hard all weekend which was a blast! One of these days I’m going to actually pass Chuck in turn one! This weekend was great in my book… if we could only get rid of those damn spec miatas!

Here’s my video of the Sunday race… http://www.vimeo.com/1506441

Gee Matt, why’d you edit out all the interesting parts? (Just kidding)

Nice ride thru 10A. Next time you’re there, take a close look at the orange cone marking a storm drain grate that I think is pretty close to where you went–definitely do not want to bottom out in that culvert unless you have a tire/wheel/suspension bit you want to get rid of.

Yep, I suck at starts, apparently. At least this weekend I sure did.

Looks like you showed more courtesy to the Miatas than we were getting back. It will be a topic of conversation for me with NASA and Jason Holland for sure.

We had great racing all weekend! Great video, especially the part where I passed you. :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you actually gained some time on me with that 10a shortcut. I will have to look at that line in the future.

Here’s video of the Saturday race… http://www.vimeo.com/1508364 . This includes most of the warm-up lap with the above-mentioned tire scrubbing. I love when Geiger gets up next to Johan and moves all the way over to the edge of the track. There was serious pucker-factor going and the race hadn’t even started yet!

This was supposed to be the longer race of the weekend, but we ended up with around 15 minutes of actual racing time due to two red flags. WAY too much carnage this weekend (especially Saturday). Ironically, the Sunday race didn’t even have a double yellow (I guess everyone got it out of their system on Saturday).

Sorry for the long Sunday video, Chuck! I’m actually glad I didn’t know about the drain in 10a/b… I wasn’t really driving the car at that point… more just hoping the car knew which way the track was. I think one of the reasons I went for that ride was that a Miata and a 944 were both dive-bombing me into the turn. I had vivid memories of the day before. e30+miata+944 = disaster!

haha… that’s one way to intimidate whoever is going to line up next to you.

This is worse. It’s only a parade lap.

A fressh batch of bad attitude just came out of the oven at:

Enjoy.

LMAO. That was really funny.

And Jim, great write-up.

My videos are at ftp://FileSharing(dot)BrasselerUSA(dot)com. Big files so download first. Likely only of interest to those battling in the rear of the pack. Or those that want to see the dashboard created by Traqmate’s new TraqStudio product. Or if your name is Joe Tripp and you want to see yourself almost die on turn 1 (Sunday 11:10 into the vid)

Sadly, I didn’t capture the Miata’s swarming around me Saturday because I turned off the gear during the first red. Then I must have bumped the driver cam prior to Sunday’s race because it’s more of a roofcam.

Not to take away anything from BimmerWorld driver James Clay’s recent victory at Road America, but I posted the lap notes from our race that occurred this weekend as well (remember, they need to be read from the bottom up):

See you at Rockingham September 20 - 21 for Round Nine.

This race will not air on SPEED.

Skeen wishes he was signing autographs for the hot girls whose parents keep them away from Al Taylor.
3:49:46 pm

No. 49 Skeen wins. The crowd is bored again. No. 800 takes second unless motor is appealed. No. 241 Patton finishes 3rd. No. 008 Robinson, No. 241 Taylor and No. 82 complete the top 6.
3:48:46 pm

CHECKERED FLAG

No. 401 gets some lucky traffic to pick Geiger with.
3:47:29 pm

No. 800 walks away using the power of his not-even-broken-in cheater motor, trying to chase down Skeen who is the master of hiding turbos.

No. 401 Taylor and Geiger swap positions through Turn 12. Then Turn 1. Bumper to bumper racing for 6th!

Geiger takes the Cobetto Shortcut through 10a and 10b while No.241 Patton and No.008 Robinson cruise by and wave. No. 401 also gets through before Geiger rejoins.

Geiger locks up! Patton avoids!

Geiger makes move into 10a while Patton laughs from deja vu.

Patton takes note of the paint chips in Geiger’s front grill he’s so close in the rear view.

Geiger puts pressure on Patton.
3:42:19 pm

Patton and Geiger walk away from Robinson.

Geiger passes Robinson without breaking a sweat in this 93 degree heat.

Robinson and Patton continue to fight.

Skeen slowly gaps the field. No.800 Wilson follows.

Patton and Robinson fight into Turn 2 and 3. Geiger’s sitting on Robinson’s bumper.

GREEN. All pretty close to Turn 1!

Formation lap is under way.
3:26:41 pm

Today’s Round Eight race will be led at the start by No. 143 Skeen, No. 800 Wilson, No. 241 Patton, No. 008 Robinson and No. 82 Geiger.
3:24:17 pm

It is 93 degrees and sunny.
3:23:20 pm

Five minutes on the grid.
Time is for reference only and is cued from the Eastern Time Zone

Welcome to the SpecE30 Live Timing and Scoring for Sunday, August 10th, 2008.

See you at tomorrow for the second sprint race.

No. 241 Patton finishes 3rd and Schwartz 2nd. No 49 Skeen takes victory. No. 401 Chuck Taylor is your 6th Place Winner.
3:38:46 pm

Race finishes under full course yellow. Geiger takes 4th.

Geiger’s realizing he would have had a podium spot with smarter racing and more patience.

RED FLAG

This time through, Geiger makes same bad decision to pass Schwartz in same turn, Patton motors by like Geiger is the slow kid in school who can’t learn on his own.

Patton makes bad decision to pass Schwartz through Turn 10, Geiger motors by like Patton broke an axle.

Robinson falls off almost invisibly in Geiger’s rear view mirror while Patton and Schwartz battle.

Less than a full lap has elapsed and Robinson, as always, biffs. Geiger pounces. Robinson tries to bully his way back but due to his weak girly physique has to yield. Geiger reclaims rightful position.
3:21:25 pm

We’re back racing!

RED FLAG

Geiger misses shift due to crappy transmission, Robinson takes advantage.

No 241 Patton, followed by Swartz with Geiger right on Swartz’s bumper followed closely by Robinson.

No. 49 Skeen takes the lead.

GREEN. Drag race down to Turn 1.

Schwartz tank slaps, ending in the grass almost putting his car into the wall.
3:08:33 pm

Formation lap is under way.
3:07:41 pm

Today’s Round Eight race will be led at the start by No. 143 Skeen, No. 241 Patton, Schwartz, No. 82 Geiger.
3:04:17 pm

[quote]Schwartz tank slaps, ending in the grass almost putting his car into the wall. This is a similar incident to what Geiger experienced in 2005 when he wrecked a 911 on the warmup lap at a DE.

I think you missed a line I corrected…

The weather was great.

I am tired of Kater Time BBQ.

It was the first race of the season that Malt Liquor Tech did not make an appearance at the trophy presentation.

Thanks to Jim Pantas for the use of the NASA trailer for us to fix our exploded clutch.

Thanks also to Indy Jim and Geegar for use of tools and also to Robert Patton for the front rotor.

I am back home now, actually wishing I was sleeping out on TJ’s trailer tonight instead.

I will be at Rockingham, we need to get plenty of folks there so Jim will continue to schedule races there, tell you friends!!

Al

Yo M3 Bill, did your noise persist thru Sunday?
