Road Atlanta Results

Glad you all had a good weekend. Craig you looked terrified next to Johan on the formation lap. I don’t blame you. You all can thank me for letting you finish 1 place higher than you would have if I was there. I take checks and toyo bucks as tribute.:stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t realize how far over I went until I saw the video  All that was going through my mind was that I just spent two months putting this car back together (motor mounts, transmission twice, engine, etc), have no idea if my handiwork will hold, I’m sitting in an all-time high of 4th place and to have him wreck into me on the formation lap after already dumping it in the grass and nearly the wall… dude… self preservation has to kick in at some point.

Yo M3 Bill, did your noise persist thru Sunday?[/quote]

Yes, it got worse. And Travis was right, there was a new thunking noise. We are taking apart the right front this week to see what’s what. Thanks for your help!

By the way, thought I’d mention a problem that caught M3Bill this weekend, but could have happened to anyone, so others can avoid his situation.

He was found to be about 20lbs under after the race on Saturday, which is well past the 5lb grace limit in the rules. Bill had weighed his car at his last event, CMP, and at that time he was well over on weight, and in fact probably thought his car could not even get down below min weight and still run, so he didn’t get on the scales earlier in the day. He thought he had more than enough fuel to still be well over the minimum.

I’m sure Bill is sputtering that there must be something wacky with the scales. Whether true or not, the readings for the weekend are the only ones that count, so you’d be well advised to make sure you weigh the car (ideally before qualifying) so you can adjust your fuel/ballast strategy according to current conditions. I’m sure Bill will be doing just that in the future!

Bill, feel free to add your color commentary, but I just wanted to bring this out so others could learn from your situation.

I plan to post a more detailed report complete with videos but this will be my “in a nut shell report”

Saturday: Missed quali on Saturday. Started 16th. Was the first car to make it through the 3 car pile up that caused the 2nd, race ending red flag. Finished 10th.

Sunday: Started 13th. Made my way to 9th. Got punted by a Miata-why-i-otta… finished 10th. ran a 1:48:5

Here’s the excitement from Saturday:

Who’s the E30 that starts the whole mess?

The E30 (Bob Chrystler) didn’t start it. The Miata punted him. After the restart the Miata’s came thru us really aggressively. It was nuts. They came swarmed past me, then starting working over Scott and Bob.

Sorry Bob, looked at it again and see what happen. Yea, those guys came thru you like Grant thru Richmond.

Hope Bob’s car is ok?

Scott that was a awesome NASCAR moment. You drove straight into the cloud and I’m sure you were puckered pretty tight!

Bob’s car is not ok. Bob’s car is an “ex-” race car. As is Fred Switzer’s car from an off exiting turn 1 during the enduro. It was a hard weekend for SpecE30.

Boy, Road Atlanta is a hard track! Were you driving Fred’s car at the time?

A couple of Spec E30’s for sale, but hopefully neither car is damaged that badly!

RE. Boy, Road Atlanta is a hard track! Were you driving Fred’s car at the time?

-Negative. Thank god.

Re. A couple of Spec E30’s for sale, but hopefully neither car is damaged that badly!

-I imagine that negotiations are occuring behind the scenes, depending on finances.

By the way, thanks to everyone for being nice to Ashley and making her feel welcome. She actually thinks you are a nice group of guys (and gal).
