Road Atlanta: Aug 12-13 w/ NASA SE

#1

Apparently Patton hasn’t been motivated enough to start the inquiry thread for Road Atlanta in a couple of weeks, so I’ll go ahead and start it off. Just curious to see what the E30 field will look like and find out how many of you mid atlantic guys are going to make the trek.

RACE:

COMP SCHOOL (School Saturday / Race Sunday):
Kelly Childress #168

Road Atl will be my Spec e30 debut. See you there. Why aren’t doing the race Kelly?

Sorry about that… I meant the comp school Saturday and race on Sunday. I can’t wait for Sunday and am really looking forward to wheel to wheel racing!!! Believe it or not, the car is actually ready EARLY!!! I don’t know what to do with myself

That’s a classy looking car. Good thing I know I’ll be in good company by making mine look like an easter egg!

If NASA issues my provisional, I will be there.

#6

Kelly, Why don’t you post more pics of the car?

#7

I’ll be there but some of the Mid Atl guys are heading to Mid Ohio for a warm-up weekend to get ready for the Championship.

Yes, the car looks great Kelly.

Since I’ll be arriving late Friday, can someone save a few spots for us in the Road Atlanta paddock? Carlton and I saved room for the Spec E30 crowd at VIR and it’s been great hanging out (and talking smack) with the guys.

I have some on the photo gallery under FPR, but the build (and some events) have been documented mostly through my website at: http://www.kchildre.com/bmw_project.htm

Nicely documented Kelly.

#10

Got my provisional today…I’m registered and IN! :woohoo:

#11

I’m signed up for the comp school as well, and planning to race on Sunday.

#12

Racing all weekend:
Patton (I assume)
Cullen (I assume unless his car breaks… again)
Carter (Glad to see you come down for the weekend)
Dameon

Competition School / Sunday Race:
Kelly Childress #168
Chuck Taylor #401
Gasman (Are you taking the comp school or racing all weekend?)

Anyone else from MA coming down for a nice cool weekend in Atlanta?

#13

Gasman-Steve will be racing all weekend
I think Roberts daughter Laura will be racing on Sunday as well.
Still trying to Mel Myers out there as well.

Carter, the paddock space will be a darn good question. In March, the NASA RA paddock was a zoo. I think a few guys parked their trailers over at the truck stop at Hwy 53 and I-85. The recommended paddock map didn’t last long, pretty soon it was jungle law. It was bad.

Hopefully the heat this month will keep some of the wussies away and we can carve out some room. I’m getting up there Friday, as is Kelly, if only to experience the joy of our first annual Tech inspection, so we’ll do the best we can. Anybody know where to buy cheap cones and crime scene tape?

Carter, by the way, Kelly’s ride should be easy enough to find, given his photojournalism, and my #401 is a black 2-door with an open trailer and a silverish Pathfinder tow vehicle.

Well you guys will have to save me space because I won’t get there until very early Sat. morning. I will actually get to Atl on friday night but by the time I make it in the track will be closed.

Kelly, I have registered for both days of racing. Are most of you Guy’s doing the school and racing?

I haven’t seen a list of how many people have registered. Is there a posting somewhere?

Laura Patton, Robert Patton and David Cullen are always in attendance, but are always last minute sign-ups. Thankfully the Pantas put up with our tardiness. Any others for Road Atlanta? Regards, Robert Patton

We buy the crime scene tape at Lowes. We also tape a few "Spec E30" signs (paper and a Sharpie) to the crime scene tape every ten feet or so to let others know that we’re not hogging an area for only one car.

I’ll arrive at about 6:00 so try to save some space if possible. Having everyone together is nice, for many reasons.

Thanks,

Carter
