My take, after 20+ years of club racing. Tuesday morning quarterbacking, of course.
T1 - the black car was a little too “pushy” no pun intended. I always prepare to brake a little early in T1, because of the stacking. But a nudge like that is not a big deal.
Esses - The black car had not completed the pass but went for the apex to the left. He should have stayed to the right. He still would have eventually made the pass I’d bet and there wouldn’t have been any contact. At VIR, I have raced side-by-side though our uphill esses and have not had contact. We both left just enought room for the other car and we sorted it out after the last turn of the esses.
10A/B - The white car braked too late and was clearly going off. If I was in the white car I would have driven off more straight, and more under control. Even if I end up in the sand trap, it’s better to get towed out with a clean car, after the race is over. If I had been in the black car, I would have slowed more (depends on surrounding traffic of course) and stayed waaaay left. I’m guessing the white car had gotten a tow down the straight and was carrying more speed. Most drivers at this level don’t consciously think about that and brake at the same place…and go off. I would have let him go off, and driven right by.
