Request for new class in SpecE30 -Flintstone class

:woohoo:
What can I say, I like a challenge.

I can see the road and the front tire at the same time.

Hey the sound proofing came right off, but so did the floor :frowning:

I knew it was bad, but I didnā€™t think it was that bad, most of it was hidden over some nice seam sealer. It was when i tried to jack it up that it all fell apart. Any way it was still a cheap parts car. I will still try and fix it just for fun.

Even if you got this car for free its going to end up costing more than a good, rust free car would. There are others that attempted to take on this same challenge and I am sure they will chime in about their experience. I wouldnā€™t feel safe racing a car with that much rust.

#4

A parts car is about all thatā€™s good for. I would try to find a clean roller to build up.

#5

Wow! Stop there!!!
You have NO IDEA what youā€™re getting yourself into! I restored a 1984 323i Baur TC with rust like that & had to use a donor car to do it. Very extensive & intricate work, and very time consuming. The only reason I didnā€™t decide to junk the car was that it is one of 7 officially imported to the US. Find a clean car for your build.
(But if you do decide to go that route, Iā€™ll be more than happy to provide very detailed pics of my floorboard saga.

Where are you located?

I have a 2 door rolling tub for $500 in NCā€¦

Hey guy, thanks alot for the warnings. I realize that this is not the car to go racing in. I hope it serves as a warning for other people shopping for cars.
this is now my rolling parts bin for the next e30 i find.

NOT_MPOWER: I would love to see those pics since I will be trying to repair this one for fun and to see if I can do it.

AL: I am in NJ, so since Diesel is 4 bucks a gallon You might be a little far for me. I do travel down that way a little bit so I might still take you up on that.

FYI: I paid 500 bucks for this car. It is a 1988 325is

Itā€™s all good, vents for your brakes. A few patches should do the job. Iā€™m no autobody expert, but Iā€™m sure you can fix it. Iā€™ve seen worse.
I guess I donā€™t feel bad after paying $500 for my parts car and only the timing belt needs replacement, so far.

OKā€¦ so this is my first attempt at a ā€œblogā€. Iā€™ve posted floorboard restoration pics at:

start from the bottom & work your way up.

So I am a little fuzzy on the back dating donor swap thing.

Can i use any e30 1982 through 1991 body as long at I put my engine and diff from a class legal car like my 88is.

#13

Yes, you can. The donor car then assumes the requirements of the vehicle from which the engine was donated.

#14

9.3.2.1. Cars that do not have an original type engine, (e.g. the engine was not available in the model, chassis, and year of the car), shall be classed based upon the vehicle for which the engine was original.

Wow, that makes me feel much better. I paid $1000.00 for mine. It was a well running and driving carā€¦ It had 3 small rush holes in the floor board, but otherwise solid.
