Racing at Roebling with VDCA 18-19Sep

#1

Like last year, the Vintage folks have invited us to Roebling. Chuck is the POC so we’ll be getting more details from him soon. Last year we got around a dozen SpecE30’s and 4? more Lightning racers, and we had the track all to ourselves for 2 iterations of Practice, Qual and Race. It was a lot of track time for not much cost and as low-key as you can imagine. Laura put together a low country boil Friday evening, and the Vintage guys did a great dinner Sat night.

It was kind of like a big racing picnic with all your buddies.

Last year we had to get 10 folks to sign up and pay before we could get in. I imagine that requirement remains. I’ve cancelled out of the BMWCCA race at RA so I could do this one.

On a personal note, my mother is likely to come visit us at this race. She thinks I’m a whackjob, so I’d take it as a kindness if you didn’t reinforce that idea for her.

Likewise, I’ll instruct at RA (not race) and Laura and I will both be at RRR to join the vintage guys.RRR is a favorite of ours, and we’ll roll out the welcome mat for all that attend. So much fun to strategize with others and see how it plays out on the track.

How 'bout some visitors from Florida or Mid Atlantic?

I suspect that noting we could say would help/hurt your case. You’ve done such a great job so far!

The Vintage event sounds like it would be a lot of fun. Even though it would be an 8 hour tow and would make for three race weekends in a row I’m real tempted. Now if Laura is going to do a Low Country boil I might just have to make the trip down.

Registration with VDCA is up! Visit this link for the informational flyer and the PDF registration form. As you can see, registration and payment go directly to VDCA.

Those who went last year can vouch that we had a great time, some fun racing, and the vintage guys throw a really, really nice dinner Saturday night. Sign up early and recruit others to join in.

I’m so in for this event!!! It was so much fun last year and I can’t wait!

I will look into doing a low county boil. Logistically, I’m not sure that I can make it happen this year (as I’m starting a new job in September, so asking for a day off or to leave early may not look to good). However, I do know of a great place down the interstate about 10 minutes that can suffice a low country boil craving and I’ll make homemade pies and goodies for the track all weekend!

Hope to see everyone there!

Laura

I did this last year. The folks of the VDCA are great. We got in some great track time.

Wish I could make it :frowning:

Logistically another arrive and drive for L. Patton.
So, when I’m 70 years old she’ll owe me 20 years of arrive and drive. Good deal, eh?

I’d love to come, but its 626 miles… That’s like $400 in gas just to get there and get home. Hmmm, maybe I could sell something. I’ve never been to Roebling and really want to check it out!

You’ll find out that somehow it doesn’t work like that.

This does sound like a lot of fun, too bad its 5 hours away. Can we talk VDCA folks to come up to CMP next year?

You are complaining about a five hour tow? There is only one track that we race on that is less than a five hour tow for me (RA at four hours). Everything else is seven plus. Get your butt and the tow rig in gear and be there. That tow should be only a couple of baby feeding stops.

It sounds to me like you might have your priorities inverted. Work is what you do in between race weekend to fill in the dead time!

If it turns out that you can do the boil, I’ll volunteer to help. I’m about as good in the kitchen as I am with an E30’s innards. If not, we can organize a dinner at your “great place”.

I’m in and the “check is in the mail”.

Thanks, Jim, for signing-up and the great attitude about RRR.
We’ll figure something out for Friday’s dinner.

Alex, althouugh RRR’s facilities are unimpressive, you’ll love the track. It is fast and well suited for our cars. Broken transmisson one year and had to race in 4 and 5 gears only. The track was fast enough to hold 4th and the car started last, finished 3rd. Yes, a fast track.

You’ll love it.

Okay, I have almost convinced myself to make this event my “return to racing” event…

Fred, you can’t make that statement and not provide the explanation for those not in the know!

Jim and Robert - I’ve been to RRR several times and yes, it is a fun track (actually did my first ever DE at RRR) and 5 hours wouldn’t be bad - except when you got a screaming baby in the back seat. We’re getting him gradually used to the seat, so this should be a no brainer next year. This year I have to stay close to home.

Oh yes I can…
