Putnam October 2010

#1

Now that we have M-O behind us, who is heading to Putnam? Autobahn is in there too.

I am heading to Putnan.

Simon, I know you have permission to go and with no hotel and I get lunch why not?

Kevin, need help rebuilding? You need to be there.

Anthony, you need the points.

FastTech, we are expecting you

Kyle, still need to shake down the car before next season.

Rob, don’t worry about crew, I have plenty.

Denny, try out the new car.

Gareth, Great Seat time.

Cameron, you have found lost power, bring it on.

Anyone else??

Michael

Apparently money just grows on trees :). I just wrecked my car, it needs to be fixed. I’m also helping Kevin fix his car. On a side note if anyone has any of the following parts let me know.

Gidney Grill
Left Grill
Left Front Strut Housing

I’d be more inclined to go if it counted towards Nationals.

Let me see how the repairs go and we’ll go from there.

I understand. I will take a look for the parts you need. It is nice that you are helping Kevin. I have been hit a few times not my fault and causing damage and they did not offer to help me fix my car. I also did not ask either. I don’t think I have ever caused anyone else damage that was entirely my fault. I guess if I hit a friend I would want to help. Not sure how I feel about others. Just imagine if you hit a very expensive car while on track. That person puts it there knowing what could happen. That is why I race SE30. Not that bad to fix or replace if have to.

I know Kevin told you that you did not need to help him. He understood the risks. It is admirable that you are still helping him.

Good Luck,

Michael

Count Me in!! I had way too much fun last weekend.

Sean
FASTtech 53

#5

Last weekend was awesome. We need to have bigger fields more often. I’ll definitely be at Putnam.

#6

I’ll be there. And Autobahn, too, for that matter. Since there are only a couple of us paying attention to the regional points, here’s how it lays out…

Team FASTtech is in the lead
Michael Osborne is 2nd
I am 3rd
Cameron is in 4th

I need to win both races at Autobahn (read: FINISH 2 races), then finish an average of 5th position or better in both races at Putnam in order to come out ahead of FASTtech.

Michael can win if he wins all remaining races (including Autobahn).

FASTtech has run enough races to be at the point of dropping lowest-points-finishes (best 10 count). Sean is in position to hang onto the championship if I don’t finish a race. So, I’ll be staying as far away from him as possible, ahead or behind, as he has the most incentive to see me put off the track!

So, this thing isn’t over! Putnam should still hold some excitement!

#7

I’ll be there doing something…most likely driving all 3 days. It’s also a chance to see the family since I grew up 30mins away.

#8

Car is showing some signs of injury (water leak, still has BP oil leak, and trans leak). Trying to do what I can about the water and trans before Autobahn. We’ll see what happens. I’m also running out of tire. LOL. Just need to make it through the weekend… Team FASTtech has their fingers crossed (that something breaks), I can see… :stuck_out_tongue:

#9

I’ll be there… This will be my first race with the GL/MW crowd and I’m looking forward to it!

#10

Well, Autobahn has come and gone and I’m happy to report that I and the car made it through unscathed. I got the water leak fixed (thanks to new silcone hoses from Ireland Engineering), but the trans and motor are still leaking. I was the only SpecE30, but found some GTS1 guys to play with when they weren’t battling each other. We’re still working with the car setup and I feel that we learned a couple things this weekend, so that’s good.

As for the racing, Saturday was wet in the morning, so I still didn’t know how fast I could go when the race came and it was dry. It would figure that a GTS1 car splattered the entire front of my car with mud on the 2nd lap, reducing visability dramatically. I still drove on through the race, even though I only TECHNICALLY needed to take the green flag in each race.

In Sunday’s race, I had a great back-and-forth with a GTS1 944 for the second half of the race. He almost had 2 bad crashes (both caught on my carmera!), but managed to save it both times without taking anyone else out. It was a lot of fun. He had a lot more mechanical grip than I did, similar power (I might’ve had the edge there), but I was able to just out drive him in the fast corners. He did manage to put together a lap that was a second faster than my fastest, but I beat him across the finish line. Lots of fun!

So, it looks like we’ll have a race on our hands at Putnam. What excites me about this (and I hope I’m not the only one), is that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. I’ve had enough bad experiences to realize that it’s not over 'till it’s over! It is possible for FASTtech, Osborne, or myself to come out on top, pending the results of the last 2 races! I’m looking forward to Putnam!

I need a money tree. Until I find one, I’ll just have to save for next season. But I’ll be at the track crewing for Sean. Wouldn’t miss a chance to hang with you guys. Always good fun.

I do have a spare kidney grill and left grill. Sadly, no extra strut housings. I can bring the parts to Putnam. Bring your car we’ll install 'em at the track.

It looks there are only 5 Spec E30s signed up for Putnam Park next weekend. I was hoping for a bit more!!! What’s this “Putnam 100” all about?

#13

I believe the Putnam 100 is a race were you pick a speed and you have to average that over the 100 miles. There is also a one lap shoot out where you have to guess a time to do one flying lap. The closest person to their time without going over wins. They may through in ‘the loop’ or ‘Times Square’ sections of the track for added fun.

I’ll be there on Friday. Is there an area the SE30 guys usually park in the paddock? I can try and reserve some prime real estate…pavement.

#14

I’m planning to show up Thursday in the afternoon. What time do they close the track down Thursday evening?

#15

The Putnam 100 sounds interesting… By my math, that’s about 18 gallons of fuel and full race speed. Do our tanks hold that much?

#16

I think the idea is the speed you have to average is slower than normal race speed. I believe the speeds are 55, 60, and 65. Just get a rope and tie your car behind Anthony’s. He won’t mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

Track hours are 7am - 7pm. Everyone has to leave the track by 7:30pm. Same holds true Fri-Sun.

LOL. I don’t think so. I’ll probably head out after the banquet on Saturday night. That stuff on Sunday is… lets just say, not for me.

Earlier this year we parked along the back row in the grass at the high spot about across from the concession stand. I will not be arriving in town till late Friday and will be at the track early Saturday morning. Those who are there Friday, I would be great if they would save me so me space.

Shelly made a big pot of chilli for us to eat on Saturday. Just wanted to let you guys know. I sure hope you will help us eat it so we can all have an equal handicap for the races.

LOL. We’ll do our best. This might throw off my cross-weights, though. I’ll have to adjust my ballast accordingly ; )
