I want to publicly apologize to the Spec E30 community. It was not my intent to cause so much trouble concerning the rules. I guess I put too much thought into the rules and should just do what is commonly done no matter what is actually legal or not. I brought this to the attention of the community as an educational exercise not as a ploy to gain an unfair advantage. I would have just kept it to myself if I wanted to use it as an advantage. I do feel that things like this should be cleaned up in the rules so that when someone does show up with something different than the party line, they are not deemed illegal even though the rules say different. I am aware that no set of rules are perfect. However, being so they should be modified as things are discovered.
Carter and Mike do an exceptional job with this series. That is why I chose to build a car for it. I don’t want to adjust springs and shocks anymore. I want to bolt on the SAME parts that everyone else does and go racing door to door. Do I think that a stiffer sway bar is a competitive advantage? YES. These car are only tenths of a second apart at the finish. Over a 40 min race a few hundredths of a second a lap make a difference. Just because cars are so close don’t think that equipment does not matter. The closer the racing the more minuscule differences make a difference on the podium. Alignment, tire pressure, rear sway bar settings all make differences in lap times. There is an optimum for each car and driver combo.
Anyway, I am going to bolt on my stack of parts, use my ST front sway bar, and come out and play. I will tape the rules to the windshield and make sure I don’t go outside the box.
