Plans forSaturday:

Take Cyl head off donor motor, install rebuilt head, timing belt, seals, flywheel and clutch, seal up trans, mate engine and tranny and install in rolling shell.

I need someone to bring a tourque wrench…

We will be eating brats and drinking beer during the day and then will top it off with Aunt Millies Pizza at the end of the day, I will be buying.

This may be a learning experiance for some, including me as I have never change a cyl head…Rigmaster can you make it to provide guidence??

Al
Make absolutely sure that you use NEW head bolts. They are angle torqued so they stretch. get the angle gauge at autozone or advanced…I can’t remember which one stocks it. I think it is less than 15 bux. Napa has one for 40 bux
the new head bolts are torx headed so you will need the correct socket…again NAPA stocks it I think it is an E14.

Don’t forget to slap a new tensioner and water pump either…

Al,

you’re in bad shape if you’re looking to me for guidance…

But, then again, I guess you knew that.

I’ll be there on Sunday, not sure what time- I’m planning to take the scenic route through Hillsborough to look at an Arc Welder on the way to Milton.

I gave you all the helpful hints I knew about the head replacement on the phone tonight- lemme know if you can’t find the torque specs or sequence online and I’ll look them up for you.

I’ll bring my usual assortment of tools, let me know if you think of anything special toolwise and I’ll bring it if I’ve got it.

Bret.

Bret,

If you get this in time, do you have one of those "chassis braces" that goes roughly under the center-support bearing across the trans tunnel? I need one and am near Hillsborough; I can meet you nearby to pick it up if you can bring one.

Michael,

is it the "S" Shaped piece?? If so, I’ve got a couple of them laying on the floor of the shop. The piece I’m thinking of goes across the bottom of the driveshaft tunnel, and is held on with 3 bolts per side IIRC.

I have not been able to get in touch with the guy in Hillsborough yet- so I don’t know if I’m going that route- but I’m definitely going to Milton.

Let me know.

Bret.

I actually drove the car thursday night, runs, drives, stops. Time to start on the cage and safety equipment…I might just make it to Nationals. I had ordered new clutch plate bolts for the new clutch, they were not the allen head type and actually pushed the ring gear off by a couple of mm’s, Luckily we saw it before we put it all together, other than that there were no real surprises.
