Other videos? Some race stories?

How to help Lako with a new car?

Yes!
My favorite videos are starring Bitsy’s rear end.
My driving was erratic, but the racing action was … Delicious.
Post more! Sunday too, please.

Really, stories. I need 'em to write a race report for Pantas.

I type 5 words per minute.

You type faster.

Stories, stories…

Let me get it started. Gress we missed you at RA. How was the anniversary?

Jon, couple of comments on the start, if I can be so bold . . .

Can’t comment on the timing cause I can’t see the flag, but don’t be afraid to be snugged up to the guy in front of you. That 3 CL you left is 3 CL you’ll have to make up and, more importantly, a nice spot for a couple of other guys to jump in.

Second, going into T1, unless I just can’t see something to the sides, it looks like your brain reverted to DE mode and you set up for the DE line which allowed another guy to sneak in and pass you.

Best advice on starts–pick the line of cars that’s moving the fastest and go!

Have fun!

Cosm3os…Thanks for the feedback… I am not sure what I was doing on that start…I looked at it from a side picture a friend took and it was more than 3…

By me looking at the car in front, I reacted to the green when I heard the noise, so lost a little there also.

I was ok coming down the hill but we bunched up and then separated…I was slow to react to that, hence the gap. I also couldn’t see the flag station very well from back there…Learn’t allot in those few miniutes…

Wanting a clean race and expecting stuff to happen in one, I went wide left “in case”. Extremely defensive. Sunday I went up the inside behind Switzer but gave too much room, again well on the safe side.

I backed off in 3 when all the dirt was flying expecting to see a car sideways, wasn’t there either.

At this point, I am all ears from the experience present on thse forums…Don’t be shy…All comments are welcome…:cheer:

Aright, you asked for it! Actually, I watched the whole thing and I was impressed with your racecraft for your vintage. If I didn’t know better Ida guessed you had a season under your belt.

Two things I noticed:

  1. There were several times (usually in the turn leading to the back straight) where it appeared that you recognized that the car in front of you wasn’t getting a good run out of the corner due to a botched line or traffic. You drive a nice consistent line, but in those instances it seems you would pinch your exit anticipating that you would have to pass. But that would negate any advantage you had by him botching the corner. Goes without saying, you’ll have to get more comfortable getting close to other cars. Carry that momentum all the way out as far as you can before you have to start the pass.

  2. That pass on the white car was probably a divebomb in most guys’ eyes, but you knew that. Get there another .5 sec earlir and it was yours. However, I noticed you doing something that my mentor caught me doing. You make a diagonal to the apex when you are trying a late inside move. That compromises your line and doesn’t have much effect on the other guy. 90% of the work in a pass is done once you get next to him and trigger the 3/4 rule. Get next to them and KEEP THEM ON AN OUTSIDE LINE by not letting them turn in when they want to. Again, its about getting comfortable getting close. If you get the position, keep them to the outside, you end up getting a good apex and force him to take the real compromised line and/or drop behind you. Now, beware the veteran who knows you also have to give 3/4–be prepared to put two on the curbing/grass on the inside if he presses the issue! But even then, you still have the better line. Make sense?

Firstly, thanks for that opening statement…Was really my first race… I have watched many of the great racers on this site and a few others over the last year or so in anticipation of last weekend…Maybe some of it sunk in…

On part 1. Getting closer I would say is my biggest area for improvement. I am overly cautious at the moment, but still of the DE mindset based on my only current experience… Conversations like this re inforce the need, so thanks for pointing it out…

Part 2. What triggered the attempt ( I was hesitent based on the distance I was behind ) was his apparent early braking. I take it that the “diagonal” comment is the move towards the corner apex early as opposed to holding a straighter line for a fraction longer, thus pushing the White car wide?
Again, It was late in the race and an attempt that could have gone wrong with high risk low reward. At the same time I was testing my abilities…Wes and I talked about it after the race and had a great discussion…We gave each other room as I fully expected him to take the corner…Filing this one inthe bank for later…

Great feedback…Many thanks

Here is what you dirty dogs want to see: https://vimeo.com/61581627 Cold tires? Unsettled turn in?

Saturday was a great race with team Palacio and Espinosa. Congrats to Eric and Julio for great 1-2 both days. Ill get that video together later. Hope to get back soon. Spec Z? Spec E30?

#12

You understand it perfectly and, yes, the thought applies where you make the move .5 secs earlier. In this specific case, you were probably lucky it ended well!

"you were probably lucky it ended well! "
Yes…

Do you even have to ask that question? Where else can you get the same group with some great wheel to wheel racing?

Hope the build goes well and hope to see you sooner rather than later? When are you thinking of being back out?

Lako -

If you decide Spec E30, gimme a shout. I have a small bumper roller. Lemme know if you want to use my E30 for Roebling.

Here is the Sunday video, GoPro on roof, bringing up the rear with the Thunder Roadsters…

Sun video reminded me of one more thing–I don’t think I ever saw you take a defensive line into the turn at the end of the back straight. Make em go the long way around!

Bummed to see what happened to Lako on Sunday but had a good race with Lako, Sandro, and Julio this weekend.
