Other classes for SpecE30 cars

#1

It was great meeting all of SE spec racers at RRR this past weekend - you have me really motivated to get a car together. The question I have is this: Are there NASA race weekends where a SpecE30 car can race in 2 different classes? Or would we have to go to SCCA and BMW Club events to have more than one class to race? I will have a partner on the car for the first year or two and want to be sure that we can both do some racing, even if we are not really competitive in the class.

Thanks,

Tom,

NASA runs a german touring car (GTS) which is strictly horsepower to weight classed. They normally run in the thunder run group so it seems to me that the car could run both classes in a weekend.

it can run in PT as well (PTD I think).
It all depends on how the regional director divides up the race groups.

These answers are correct at least in the Mid Atlantic. PTD runs in the Stinger group, GTS runs in the Thunder Group and Spec E30 runs in Autobahn.
PTA-C are in Thunder

Hey

You can also run Group 8 in SVRA vintage events…if you do not have a cell they will give you a one race exemption. Group 8 has all the small sedans, steel bodied 914, 911, Datsun Z cars. Sometimes 40-50 cars. They run Mid O Glen, VIR, Rd ATL and Sebring I think. I just did the VIR event last weekend, but ran my e21, keeping the e30 as back up. I used the one race exemption on the e21 last year so installed a fuel cell "can" from my old "Cowvaria"…heh…they just said it needed a cell, not that it had to have fuel in it!

After running a season with NASA the vintage drivers took some getting used to, there were a few very fast cars in grp 8 that drove the middle of the corners slowly and blasted down the straights, one guy in particular was dangerous…I may start calling SVRA Straightaway Vintage Racing Assholes…but I have run vintage for years and we do actually have some fun.

Thanks for the info you guys. Looks like I am taking everyones advice from last weekend and picking up another car to build rather than the red car that I had at RRR. This car already has AC and power steering pulled out, has Bilsteins, and some other stuff that makes it a great candidate - will likely have the car at Rockingham this month. Sounds like my brother and I can both get some race time in without too much problem. Thanks.
