We’ve started the build, I’m just curious how many cars will there be in this region next year or are currently being built? I’ll prolly still travel to VIR and Road Atlanta just for fun.
OH/IN Region
Simon, My good friend Damion commented you will be a good addition to our series. We look forward to seeing you at both tracks.
Thanks I’m really excited about this series for next year, can’t wait to get cracking. Its going to be a long winter
Good for the series but very bad for anyone hoping to get a win at Mid Ohio Simon is very quick.
Damion and Simon, I could use some schooling at Mid Ohio as the Mid Atlantic guys were tough there at the Nationals last September. Another quality BMW CCA racer joins the Spec e30 ranks…it is going to be a fun season in 2007. Regards, Robert (we’re slower in the Southeast region) Patton
I’ve never been to Mid Ohio. But I have watched a ton of in-car video for whatever thats worth. Always wanted to and will be there in '07.

Its definitely a track that takes a couple of visits to get right. Just let me know if you have plans to go there before Nationals, I’ll probably go once before nationals since its relatively close to me maybe we can all try to do a tune up the same weekend.
Damion, Seth Thomas lives close by and was kind enough to lend me his Speed Vision footage. It certainly helped, but I was woefully off the pace of the MA guys. If we want to represent the SE at next year’s Nationals we should take Simon (and Mike Osborne) up on their offers for some schooling. Although I know where my problem exists…too much brake pedal. Thanks Simon for the offer. Perhaps I’ll tow up there on a CCA race weekend. Regards, Robert Patton

Thanks, Sean. But the 'ole stopwatch doesn’t lie. I was simply fortunate in that relays popped (Carlton), fuel pumps broke (Herrington) , and other racers ended up spinning in the grass (Hunt and Davidson). With Al and Steve picking up speed it is going to be an interesting season next year at both SE and MA races. Regards, Robert Patton

Don’t forget Jens…he really gave Cobetto a good run at Summit last month.
Sean, it is going to be more than 8 of us going nose-to-tail…If Osborne joins us, and Simon joins us, and Vic shows up to race, and Brain shows up to race, and Mel shows up to race, and all of the new talented SE guys, and all of the new talented MA guys…I think you get the picture. It is gonna be fun! There will be someone for everyone to race with. Did I mention that my daughter, Laura, will be running the full SE schedule next year? Her Competition license arrived in the mail yesterday. She’s already within reach of the old man in lap times. Yes, it is going to be fun. Regards Robert (it used to be easy to win) Patton
Not sure if I am going to make it next year or just stay with GTS. I don’t have a donor car yet and not sure I will have the time to build. I already have 1 too many race cars (the E24). I do want to try something different. Maybe I can still find a car in time and build it in time for nationals.

You need to do 5 races to qualify for nationals so try not to leave it too long, we need to get the midwest rolling. Really hope you make the leap.

Yes you need 5 races, but they can be any class including Time Trials
Simon, you’re correct, we need to get the Ohio/Indiana region going. We’ll keep this thread at the top until we can get Osborne to get off his duff and build a car. It is not much fun with no one to race. Perhaps he needs some competition… Hey Mike, I can build a car faster than you can. How’s that for a challenge. Mike, if you need any help building the car let me know. There is a straight shell (86 four door) here in the Atlanta area. Cheap…$250 Call 800-755-1715. Regards, Robert Patton
I am not worried about qualifying for nationals as I can do that in my current car and I plan to. I really want to do this but it is hard to justify building another car when I have two in the garage now. If I do build I want plastic bumper 2 door. As has been discussed before, it is too hard to try to convert my current car to Spec E30. Actually, maybe a $250 parts car would have all the stuff to make my car Spec E30 legal. I need to add back the ABS, Replace the rear subframe, get all the lights working, install the heater and such, install the instrument cluster, and a lot more. Robert, can we do this over a long weekend?
Michael O.
Mike,it depends on how much of the wiring and plumbing was removed. How is the rear subframe different? Don’t tell me, I don’t want to know. Give a call to discuss as I’ve got lots of stock parts to go back into your car. You buy the $250 chassis and we’ll use those parts to replace the stock in my container. Call 800-755-1715. Regards, Robert Patton
The rear subframe has slotted holes with guides and eccentric head bolts. The bushings are not eccentric. If I remember, SE30 only allowes the eccentric bushings.
Wiring I am not sure about. Some is still in the car but the guage cluster is gone and the one from my parts car is trash as I tried to steal the fuel guage from it. I would need front struts, ABS pump and brain (which I may have), heater core hooked back up, and more. I guess I need to look at it. The truth is I am not sure what is missing and what is not.
Besides that, I would just need the shocks and springs. I think my sways are OK just hook the front back to the control arm and not the strut. Would also have to remove the headers and stick the stock chip back in. The engine needs freshened but is only built to 20 over with stock pistons. Oh and get rid of the 4.27 diff, boy will I miss that!! Maybe sales of the old parts can fund the new parts.
Do we have to run power steering?
