OH/IN Race at Beaver Run - June 10-11

#1

Hi all,
I’ve been away on travel for work for the past 2 weeks, and it’s good to be back home!!

It’s a little short notice, but there will be Spec E30 racing at Beaver Run on June 10-11. This is a THREE race weekend (one sprint on Sat, and 2 sprints on Sun).

Sign up today(www.racenasa.com), and drop me a line if you want to caravan from DC!!

Racers:

  • Vic Hall #325
  • Steve Kapuschansky
  • Stephen Dubovksy
  • Alex May

#2

I am planning to be up there doing HPDE3. Really looking forward to driving that track.

Just a quick correction. There was a typo on the registration page. This is a 2 sprint weekend (like all others), with the Sat race being a longer race (40 minutes)

Also, despite what the registration page says, if you sign up online, there is NO late fee.

I hope to be there for HPDE too. Hopefully the car and suspension will oblige.

If I can get things sorted out over here, I’ll definitely be there.

Gotta love the Beaver!

Vic,

Did you get any specific information regarding the race this weekend at Beaver Run (like what the schedule will be).

I have friends in the Pittsburgh area that I would like to attend but it is difficult to tell the when to show…

If you can post them or send them privately, that would be great!

Thanks,

-Steve

Steve,
I should have a copy of the schedule sometime tomorrow (Wed). I’ll e-mail or post as soon as I get it.

When are you planning to drive up? Do you want to caravan with the Salazar boys?

What crazy hazing do I have to have the privilege of caravaning with Salazar… :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes… I would definitely like to head up with the team. I was going to ask you when you guys were heading up. I am leaving on Friday but have not decided what time. Let me know where and when to meet and I will be there.

So it is Monday after the race weekend… Yo, Vic, do yu have any race results? Good weather? Good turn-out? How was the racing? Thanks in advance, Robert Patton

Robert,
Thanks for asking - it was a great weekend!

A string of last minute dropouts hurt our attendence, but Steve Kappy and I still had some good solid racing at the Beaver.

The bad:

  • Alex hurt his back vacationing in Italy, and could barely walk, so he was out.
  • Stephen was on vacation the week before and just couldn’t get his car ready in time.
  • Han was planning to make up our group of five, but had a last minute job obligation.

The good:

Steve and I made the 4+ hour trip to Beaver Run. We ran our practices and qualifying together in hopes of ganging up on the GTS boys. Laptimes got better over the course of the day, and during the race, I broke into the high 1:09’s. The race itself saw kappy grid up right behind me, with the fastest GTS 1 competitor (a 944) right in front of me. I got a great start, and blew by the 944. I had some great racing with a USTCC Audi (driven by David Fletcher). I put a few carlengths on him, but my brakes started to go soft, and by the time the white flag came out, he was on my butt. Some lapped traffic got in my way coming out of the last turn on the last lap, and David got a great jump on me, but I had the inside coming into the all-out little left-hand kink, and just eeked him out by a couple feet - Margin of victory was .013 seconds!!!

The Final Result for the first ever Spec E30 race with OH/IN was:

  1. Vic Hall
  2. Steve Kappy

We would have finished 1st and 4th in GTS 1 (and those guys have similar Power to Weight, but run Hoosiers!)

We got to hang out with the GTS folks and chat about the different series’. I was a little surprised that they don’t run a spec tire. It made me glad we do it the way we do with Spec E30!

The ugly:
Sunday was shaping up to be just like Saturday. Steve and I qualified in roughly the same spots, and we both got good jumps on the competition, but my race was cut short by a broken tie-rod in my 3rd lap. I guess the parts fatigue (and my oversight on a part that should have been replaced) finally set in, and I was forced to watch the action from behind a tire-wall. I got to watch Steve battle with some of the GTS 944’s, which provdided some good entertainment.

Final Result on Sunday:

  1. Steve Kapuschansky
  2. Victor Hall

It was a fun weekend, and I can only imagine how much fun it will be as more Spec E30’s make their way North. I hope we get a nice little crowd at Mid-Ohio on August 12-13!!

Vic:

Thanks for the good update. As we all move forward, I’m sure the OH/IN Region Spec E30 crowd will grow.

Vic,
Where and how did the Tie rod fail?
I will be bringing some tie rods and a handful of other parts to Hfest so we don’t
have anyone miss out for want of some simple parts…Also I only live 1/2 hour away and I have other , bigger stuff in the shed and 2 running E30’s in the driveway

#16

Carter: Agreed! It was fun, even with the smaller Spec E30 crowd - reminded me of the good old days when I was guaranteed a trophy

Sean: The tie-rod snapped right at the adjuster clamp. I ran onto some curbing (nothing too harsh) and it just went SNAP! That one particular bump wasn’t too bad, but my repeated flogging of the car finally took it’s toll. All new parts are on the way - thanks Bimmerworld!!

Thanks for the support at the track too! I remember that you got Carlton back on his feet last year! The Salazar headquarters (similar to the G.I. joe fort) is about 1 hour away, and we’re always happy to help out as well.

See you at Summit! HYPERFEST BABY!! WOOOO!!! ok…too much caffeine. sorry. :woohoo:
