Official Charlotte Motor Speedway Smack Talk

#1

OK, in just 11 short days it will be time to tee it up again for two races at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s pretty cool to note that we will get in practice, qualify and two sprint races, all in the same 6-hour span that we spent waiting for the sprint race yesterday. Sweet!

So, who all is going?

Side note, make sure to read the supps carefully…A few specifics to mention:

  1. If you show up to Registration and tell Julie ‘My you look wonderful for your age…Happy Birthday!’ she’ll give you a can coozy or Candom!
  2. Each competitor must have at least one (1) portable BC dry chemical fire extinguisher of at least 10 lbs and in good working condition in their pit area.
Aside from the obviousness of this being a good safety tip, does anyone know if the track
truly enforces the fire bottle rule?

I am going to be there, first time at that track so should be interesting.

Don’t know about the bottle but I have a couple in the trailer.

I’m in for Charlotte.

I’ve got a fire bottle but it’s usually in the truck. Somebody please remind me to take it OUT of the truck…

I find my fire bottle to be very comforting in the paddock. I keep it near the car all the time, both on the track and when it is in the garage. It is nice to know that if something goes horribly wrong there’s a chance of saving a car.

As far as I know, nothing broke on the car so I’m in for Charlotte.

I’m in…back to the scene so to speak…last 2 Charlotte races, 1 blown motor, 1 totaled car…what is next?

Al

ps, Charlotte is the best Roval in the country.

#6

I’m in! Feels like it’s been forever since CMP.

#7

Im in too. Cant wait to lay the smack down on Evan this time…just move to the top of the track and get the hell out of the way.

Remember to shift this time before you celebrate 50 yards short of the finish.

Looks like I’ll be missing this one even though it’s in my backyard. Plus the fee is up now too, so it’s getting kind of pricey for one day.

#10

Have fun everyone, got to work, see ya at RA in August. Fred, put the fire bottle on your checklist so you wont forget to place it out.:stuck_out_tongue:

#11

I won’t have the engine done in time, so looks like RA in August, where, hopefully, I will be bringing stronger game.

#12

I registered on Tuesday and it was $249…still is, was it cheaper?? I sent Julie an email with some ?'s and never heard back…was waiting for a response before I registered…I think it has been 249 for a while…?

Al - I think it was 199 before 10 day mark.

#14

About 90% sure I will sign up for this one. Still have a few things to work out. Is there anything weird and strange about this track as far as parking etc. I know at Daytona I’ve had to park the trailer separate from my pit and from my tow vehicle which was extremely inconvenient for working on the car. Also, wheres the best place to stay?

Get a garage when you sign up. That will make everything a lot easier. There are a bunch of hotels right off of I-85 and Raceway Blvd (a mile or 2 from the track).

#16

Scott, what’s the arrangement on the garage area? Can two cars share a single $65 space?

if they can i’ll go halfsies with someone

I spent the $65 last time…not gonna do it this time…too broke, probably driving in Friday morning instead of hotelling it also…

Not going to make this one. My wife’s birthday is fast approaching and she (selfishly) won’t let me spend all her my (her) money on another race. She’s expecting gifts and stuff. And brake ducts don’t seem to qualify.

I’m thinking about signing up for DE3. I’m only 2.5 hours away from this one but I need the money for tires, sway bars and cage etc. I would probably have to blow the dust off my credit card to be at this one.
