Hello all specE30ers. I enjoyed Hyper-fest. I participated in HPDE1, Sat and Sunday. My bmw was the one with the slightly worn, peeling, and faded green 89 E30i! Yes I know it’s not very pretty, she broke at the end of the last session on Sat. It turns out to not be very serious, just the Water/Alt Belt snapped. I suppose, running that straight 6 at 6k rpm for almost 25 mins 3 times that day, was too much for that old belt. I just got the bmw 3 weeks ago, have started to replace all the old dry rotted lines. The fuel lines were first, since they were so dry rotted, just touching them fuel seeped out! But of course I overlooked the Belt. The good news is the car runs great! Its engine is pretty flawless, consistently going to the redline without any hesitation, and I am impressed with the amount of torque my bmw puts out. Unable to get a belt in time for Sunday’s session, I opted to run my 01 Audi A4 Sunday, so I could get my track time in. The bmw is much more fun to drive on the track, in my opinion. The Audi is big and a little clumsy; the Quattro AWD certainly assists with the Audi’s handling characteristics. The bmw tires are mismatched running 205/14 in back and 195/60 in front, I wasn’t very pleased with the handling, but the bmw is not completely at fault. My inexperience with my bmw and overall track time, tires, open diff, and perhaps some other reasons are all contributing factors.

Overall I accomplished much Sat and Sun. I got a little better on the track, I got to meet a few specE30 owners, and up and coming racers. I was able to see what other specE30 racers are doing to their cars. Thanks to Tom Miller, he gave me some great marketing ideas for getting sponsors. I will be attending the Sept and Oct HPDE at Summit Point and look forward to seeing everybody again. Thanks to my good friend Sean Thompson for getting me involved in racing again. The last time I raced was as a teenager at Old Dominion Speedway and of course the back roads of Prince William County VA. Overall the NASA group is first class!

Oh, you might wonder why I choose the username of bmwbadboy, well one I like to be different, when I brought up the purchase of the bmw with my wife, she was totally against the idea. She would have never given her blessing. I bought the bmw knowing I would never get her to approve my well thought out purchase. Since the day she found out about it I broke the new to her by telling her I needed to go to Philly to pick up my bmw. She believes that what I did was really a bad thing, and is really pissed over the bmw, I thought bmwbadboy fit well.

Glad I am not the only one who does this to my significant other.

Very nice to meet you Dave. I had a lot of fun tailing you on track this weekend.

David:

Several times, a guy will say something like…"I would love to race like that but my wife won’t let me." To which I respond…"What thing does your wife love, that you won’t let her do?" They never seem to have considered that.

Tell her you’ll be home, when you get home.

'Good to have you in the group. I can tell that we’re going to get along just fine.

Thanks for the support, It’s good to know that I’m not alone with these issues. By the way, my wife is slowly coming around on the issue. Real Slowww!
