This is my car. Finally race ready. Not 100% finished, but ready for its first points race weekend.

Nice looking car.

Nice looking car Beto. You’re southern cal, right? I only ask because there will be several of us at Infineon (Sears Point) this weekend including I think 2-3 cars for points (not me yet though).

Have a good time, look forward to seeing how it goes for you.

damn, that makes me want to leave work and go home to work on my (also white) car … Hope to see you at one of the RM region races when they get going (!)
cheers,
bruce

Thank you guys, it’s been a long time, like child bearing lenght, and painful.
Yes, I’m in the Socal Region, I’ll be at Willows this weekend. Leaving tonight after work. I’d love to do Infineon and THills. Might go to Laguna, but just for fun. That’s actually a question I have, if I race in a different region, will the points count toward my region, in case I score any points?
OT, is it normal to be passed by Spec Miatas and CRX’s? I’ll be racing with that group this weekend, and I need to know if I should worry or not. How about Spec 944’s?

Depends what prep level they’re at and who is driving. Miatas will have less power, but better handling. 944s are pretty close (depending on which class). CRX totally depends on prep level (power).

Isn’t that the track in Pahrump? I was there a couple of Saturdays ago with SpeedVentures.

Very nice looking car!

Mine’s not a SpecE30. A 318is with SpecE30-ish suspension bits. It’s just a daily driver/practice car. I’m planning to build a race car next year using 325i.

Beto,
The miata’s are fast all together. Those 944’s just get in the way.
Hope to race with you soon. I might come down to so-cal later in the year for a run with you guys.
Good luck.

Yes, I was there Sunday, and was hoping to see the 2 e30’s from Saturday, but you guys didn’t go. Is it yours grey?

#11

No, mine’s red with brake-dust color wheels. The guy named Adam was driving the gray 325i. His best time was about 1.6 seconds faster than my best (we were both running RA1s), though both our times were way slower than stockish Miatas :pinch:

My buddy Brian was there also, in his 4-door 325i. It was his second time on track. He had some difficulty learning the track during morning sessions, but he had a good time.

Welcome! We need all the hot wheels we can get. A good specE30 car with a seasoned driver will run with and in some cases faster than a Spec Miata. Our driver passed every Spec Miata on teh track at Infineon and was laying down consistent 1.59’s all day Saturday. The co-driver Kevin Borchers, a rookie, ran a best of 2.03 and some change on Sunday. He was in the middle of the Spec Miatas, 944’s are surpirsingly slow, I always thought they would be much faster.

Here’s the results from the Group A from Sat and Sun that Walter is referring to. Donnie Edwards ran 1:59s and is a very experienced driver (triple crown NASA winner), and the car is professionally built by Walter and his team at VM Werks. Steve (Motormuncher) is racing in his first season, and for comparison I am HPDE3 with a Spec E30 that is done except rear bushings/bar and I ran 1:07-1:08s both days on used Hoosiers. I am upgrading the suspension and probably the tires to RA-1s before the next track weekend to try and get a little closer. You can see there is good competition with the Miata’s with most running at the top end of the SE times but as Steve pointed out earlier the 944s are a bit of a mixed bag - the fastest ones have lap times comparable with the faster SE30s, but generally a couple secs off.
