wow, and you’se guys haven’t even seen my completely heat-shielded, ram-air intake box.

If you read the section on air boxes you’ll see what I’m talking about. It is either a completely stock box or…see above.

no rear bar looks legal to me…as long as a legal bar is physically there, nothing says it has to be hooked up, right?

are "generic" bars like ones from genesis or speedway legal? they definitely meet the anual production requirements and you could get them in proper sizes…

I tried the no rear bar and even asked Carter about it at Nationals before I tried. He said OK as he felt it was within the spirit of the rules. I was trying big swings in setup. Now knowing the results of my personal testing, I say I hope everyone out there decides not to use their rear bar  If I can change springs too then OK but with our springs I don’t want to try it again.

No rear bar is fine if you are running the 675 lb linear (semi)coilover springs I used to run in the rear. But with these H&Rs, I might have guessed it was not a great option. Worth experimenting, but . . .

I had to disconnect the rear bar one day due to the rear tabs bending. It was good left foot braking practice. I think I may have had to use the hand brake through T7 at Road Atlanta to get the car to rotate :silly:

Can someone email me the new rules? Every time I’ve clicked on the "SpecE30 Regulations" in the main menu, it takes me to an empty page. :S

Thanks

Also… I’m pretty sure Travis (MLT #800) ran most of the season without a rear bar.

I emailed them

Scott-

We all know Travis is a crazy CF!

I don’t think you can download the rules because they don’t apply to you. Beertech is living on the edge!

I just tried out my new impact wrench–it’s cool. You can borrow it if you paddock near me, and when you’re not looking I’ll disassemble your entire car in a jiffy.

 why would you disassemble my car? Who else is likely to finish behind you

Last night, I reviewed the rules and saw the “Toyo Proxes RA-1 in sizes 205/55/14 or 205/50/15 shall be used until December 31, 2007” change.

I just got back from the Paul at Radial Tire and he asked why we are doing a cut over to the new R888s without a grandfather clause. He cited his 30+ years of racing and does not remember one series having to cut over cold turkey, especially one that is supposed to be budget conscious. He did mention the R888s will be a faster tire. I think that supports the use of both for one year and provide those racers who have some tires left to burn through them.

Thoughts?

Kappy,

There basically is a grandfather clause for the tire. The RA-1 SHALL be used till Dec 31. After that date you MAY use the R888.

Not sure why they put if unavailable because with the wording you MAY use either. In general most feel the R888 will be a tad quicker.

hmmm, I could have sworn that Carter said we could use the RA-1 until the end of 2008, and we could start using the R888 at the beginning of 2008 (i.e. overlap). I emailed Carter about this (he has been really busy opening a new plant)

That’s exactly what Carter said. I don’t think the wording in the 2008 rules document has been updated yet to reflect this intent.

There is a ton of wiggle room in this rule and ironically it is more restrictive of the stock assembly. Another head scratcher. What’s your interpretation of the word “directly”?

I would say, without anything intervening between the AFM and the air filter element

All:

I know that there are some questions about the '08 Rules and I plan to address those questions. With our new plant, the holidays, family issues, etc. I have been extremely busy.

Today, I was planning to have a light(er) day at work and planned to spend some time on the board.

However, my day is now completely full - we manufacture windshield washer solution in bulk and have had some equipment issues because of the cold snap here in the Southeast.

Before 5:00 pm today, I have to see nine industrial customers in six towns - I’m glad I have a fast car and a Valentine One!

But regarding the Rules, yes, we are cleaning-up the organizational issues asap.

I also want to say that I doubt NASA and/or Spec E30 will approve any significant changes at this point, other than a major flaw (like using the same Rule reference number twice). And we can’t say that everyone will be completely satisfied with our answers, but we’ll do what we can to ease concerns.

I will have to come back to you guys either later tonight or this weekend. I appreciate your patience and look forward to working with everyone on any Rules issue.

Jon and all:

If your car was legal in the past (regarding the bars), it’s still legal.
Jon, RD does make and sell the 22/19 bars. Harrison Motorsports and Factory 3 Performance, to name two, sell them.

I don’t think the intent of the minimum quantity was to create hysteria in the ranks, but simply to get the idea out that folks should be buying bars from a legit supplier, as opposed to having the machinist down the street fab up something special.
Exactly.

With the need for $5,000 engine rebuilds I am suprised that sway bars are an issue at all.

I had an engine built, gained 9 hp, and certainly didn’t spend $5,000.

I’m beginning to think that I need to get my car dyno’ed to see where I stand in this whole mess of power and torque.
Being as we all know that hp is a wonderful substitute for talent/ability, I need all the ponies I can get.

Am i correct in saying that all of the dyno runs that are being used for comparison are from a dynojet?

thanks and happy new year.
