New Rule suggestion

#1

so I’ve been thinking about something lately that I’m surprised isn’t in the rules. When i built my car two years ago and asked where i should put my transponder, i got all kinds of answers but the main was “it doest matter, no one finishes that close”. Well all last season, the finishes were pretty close and last month i finished second by .004 seconds. so, here is my proposal;

I believe we should have the location of each cars transponder spec’d to a specific, easy to agree on, location so that the future argument can be avoided about the “he didn’t have his transponder there and mine here”.

Opinions?

It should be within the bodywork. No other rule is necessary. You need to be smart to race. If you want to put it in the trunk then OSB.

If there were a spec spot I think it is in the hole on the right side where the ac tank sits. I might know whats it called if I ever had an ac that worked in an e30.

From the discussions I’ve had with timing and scoring folks, transponders are used for timing, and finishing positions are verified visually. Theoretically the transponder position should be a moot point.

Nope. That’s where my sexy aluminum catch bottle goes (fit perfectly in the hole). Please try again. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t like the transponder mounted where the dryer went. I destroyed a transponder that was mounted there when the car got wrecked. Now I mount the transponder on the inside of the frame rail, just aft of the radiator.

I don’t see a need for “spec” location (and corresponding rule) for the transponder. Common sense says that you want it mounted as far forward as possible, but still in a safe location. The fact that there have been finishes within 0.005sec (I’ve had one) just means that there has been some close racing. If you mounted your transponder a bit further aft, then drive a little faster next time. And/or consider moving the transponder forward for next time.

I have the transponder mounted on a simple aluminum plate mounted inside the frame rail on the driver side and it’s mounted on the stud that holds the radiator hose clamp. I loosen the nut, slide the aluminum bracket on then the hose clamps, then put the nut back on. Clear shot to the ground, inside the frame for protection - simple to make and install.

I use this on both the SE30 and our Chumpcar E30.

I’ll try to take a picture of it later if anyone wants.
