New Look Bottle Caps

#1

We had a set of bottle caps lying around and felt creative. What do you guys think ?
Our family business is doing precision machining, so we threw these on 1 of our CNC Vertical’s and here’s what happened. Weight reduction 15 lbs now 13.25  Critics welcome.

You guys are the first to see these.

dravrk and I are partners in the #80 car. He has the car in Ohio now or I’d be racing in IFU 3 this weekend.

Pretty neat looking. Any stress questions? I can’t see any. Ranger? Jim Levie?

Any openings in your family? Man how it would kick ass to have those kinds of resources available.

I think these look great! I like bottle caps. I have them on my car, powder coated dark grey. Is there any other areas where material was removed? or just what we can see? I would also like to know about the stress question. Are you planning on selling these? Spec30 discount!

Here is a photo of the back side of the wheels. I am helping Rick with this simply because I can post photos.

I happen to be a mechanical engineer by eductaion but I graduated 30 years ago so I am not current. Anyway, you will notice that Rick and his team stayed well away from the load bearing hub of the wheel. Plus, they made no modification to the real load bearing part of the wheel, where the spokes attach to the rim. It now looks like a 9 spoke wheel rather than a solid wheel. What we don’t know is how much load bearing capacity was in the dish part of the wheel where the metal was removed. My instint tells me that that area did not bear much load and the wheel has not been significantly compromised. Plus, my guess is that there is so much safety factor in a wheel like this that it is probably well with design limits. Particularly for a street application.

We are going to complete a set and do some testing on a road car and the race car. We will keep you posted.

Rick is also working on some custom wheel spacers and has done lots of drag car parts over the years. If any of you have custom machining requirements call him at 330-758-0593 or go to www.falmerinc.com

I’d like to add that the machining process was very clean and with hardly any spindle load. The cutting tool endmill that was used
was made from high speed steel and was flushed with coolant during the entire process.
Thanks,
Rick

Yes, this attempt is to sell wheels, but only if we know they will be safe. Yes, we would be open to a discount ??? for Spec E30.

I think they look great, but the guys that are running 14’s for rains mostly are using the BBS…
