NE Spec E30 gets a boost

#1

At Pocono this weekend we had 2 competitors, Sean Curran in Ol’99 and Ben Thomsen in his fresh 24, along with 2 DE SE30’s, McIntyre in (Way Ugly) 62 and Rob (sorry, didn’t catch your last name) in an active KP 'CCA car, 017.

Curran carried the days, though Thomsen was gaining until a fuel starvation problem slowed him in the last laps. The spirit of Spec E30 was upheld when Ben discovered a cracked rotor and Sean helped change them out . He had it down to 10 mins as he had to do it on his own car the day before!

McIntyre will try to get through Comp School in August, if he just paints the darn thing and Rob will change out the diff and be joining up soon.

Much interest in the paddock, with Adam in his Elise stopping by to talk of his build for next season.

All in all a good weekend, one day double infield and the other North course with the banking.

Come on out and join the fun!

Hey Chris,
Nice meeting you on Sunday.
I should have been there to race, but I have been battling some weird mechanical issues lately and I needed to make sure I had it sorted out before I DNF another race.

It’s nice to hear about more activity in the Northeast. I’m still working on my build and hope to be active on 2008. I met Sean at the last Pocono event. He was very encouraging and patiently answered all of my newbie questions. Glad to hear he had a good event.

Chris pretty much got the recap nailed, not much to add other than it was a real fun weekend (even with the odd rate of cracked rotors) and nice to meet Chris, Ben and Adam. Next year is definitely going to be a pretty good year in the Northeast.

Rob, sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you, next time hopefully.

I put together a quick little edit of the footage from Sunday’s race. Just has the start and a few highlights, including me spinning twice in the same spot. The turn seemed to catch a few people during the race, I guess that’s why it’s called Devil’s Elbow.

Another PA based car or two here is nearing completion. You won’t be alone next year if all goes according to plan. Are there any schools before VIR in Feb of '08?

I don’t know how close to completion you are, but there is a comp school at Pocono in August, the 25th I think. Chris is going to be going to that one, so if you are done with everything 2 E30s at the school would be fun. Though I’m sure there will be other E30s at VIR also.

That’s a little too soon.
I’m thinking more like the fall.

Hi all, another NE enthusiast based in upstate NY.

I have been lurking a while and I am currently running my car in DEs. Currently the interior is stripped, sunroof cassette removed etc and with the spec E30 suspension installed.

My program is to get the cage installed and to finalise the build in the off season.

Look forward to meeting you all

Was fun to see the cars at the event. I’m hoping to be HPRE ready with my E30 for the end of Sept events. Hopefully race prepped (driver and car) for some time next season.

'Good to see some activity up there.

I’d like to get to the Glen in '08 if NASA can do a race that is within two days of a weekend…

I’d definitely be in for the Glen if we could get some cars. Does NASA not run there already?

#12

Adam, nice photos, thanks for the link.

NASA is up at the Glen in October, the 13th and 14th I think. Same weekend that MA is at Summit though, so that might keep some people from heading up.

Hhey Sean, we met at Summit back at Hyperfest. Dad and I are planning on taking "Fly Navy" to the Glen for EMRA that weekend in October because we have not run the Glen in a while. Maybe we can meet soem of the other e30 NE guys there as well.

We wanted to come out to Pocono because it’s only an hour or so away for us but schedules etc prevented us from being able to make it. Also the car is still being worked on after Hyperfest.

How’s the car coming along? How much stuff needed to be replaced/straightened etc?

Sean,

I think my father was painting the car either this coming weekend or last weekend. It looked horrible but the body shop was able to straighten the chasis. It’s coming together nicely.

Good to hear that the frame was able to be repaired. Hopefully it will be back on the track soon.
