Nationals in Utah

There is serious talk about a “big event” on the east coast at the same time as the Nationals in 2009. What if this happens?

We will get to race and be happy

All this talk of miller had me thinking about entering the 24 hrs. of the nurburgring. Every race car fits into a class and there are said to be over 200k fans there at the greatest track in the world. Maybe if I quit school and win the lottery…

You’ll have to make a decision, but seriously why plan a “big” event when there is one already going on? It would dilute both races. Let’s see, Indycar and Champ car?

I agree 100%. I think it would harm both events by diluting the number of entries, contingency $$, talent level, bragging rights (“I am the 2009 East Coast Champion for Honda Challenge 3.14159”), etc.

For most of us, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. But for guys like Skeen who may be using club racing as a step to something bigger, having East Coast and West Coast champions would be a disaster. You’re either number 1 or you’re not.

Let’s just have 8 regional championships, hand out “Good Job!” stickers and give everyone a pretty blue “Participant” ribbon.:stuck_out_tongue:

PS - I am looking forward to Miller. Clearly it is a much better track than Heartland Park, but look at the attendance numbers for SCCA when they decided to have race near their headquarters for reasons other than it’s where the racers live and want to race…

I also agree that there shouldn’t be a seperate east coast championship race. The GTS guys are talking about it because there are no west coast GTS cars, but for us that is not true. There are a number of cars in northern Cali and it is probably the quickest growing region right now.

If we could just organize a couple of semi trucks to take the va/nc guys cars and one to take the northeast and one to take the southeast we could all fly instead of drive. Being in Va Beach it’s just gonna be too long for us to tow two cars.

OPM hired a truck earlier this year to go from Atlanta to Laguna Seca. It was a straight 53’ enclosed trailer with a four-post lift in the middle. Worked like a charm to carry 6 cars. Tom then took 3 other cars and all the tires & spares in his toter.

Your time doesn’t have to be worth much before it makes sense to pay a truck rather than spend an extra 3 days on a round trip tow.

Plus it really freaks out the flight attendants when you show up for your flight with a helmet. Especially if you put it on.:woohoo:

I am taking the new Wild Horses trailer out there and have another driver+trailer lined up if we need it - one trailer holds 5-6 cars and the other will hold 4-5. Cost should be in the $1100-$1500 range depending on the price of diesel next summer.
