NASA-SE: Hotlanta Challenge, Aug 7-8, Road Atlanta

#21

The stars are aligning for me to be present for the ‘Group Roast’ at Road Atlanta. What sickness compels us to voluntarily spend money for the opportunity to bake and broil on black asphalt in the pits in stifling 95 degree Georgia heat? What would compel one to take a nice race car with good tires and subject them to RA’s 120 degree asphalt? (These are rhetorical questions for this audience.)

So, for me: it’s close to home, the calendar works, I have family clearance, and the car is in decent running order.

I’ll be there.

I’m in, and I’ll be bringing my Formula one style umbrella girl with me.

You can’t bring just one. The rules require that you don’t bring any, or bring one for each Spec E30 driver. I’ll take the cute blonde…

Working on this one already. As far as I’ve learned, long pants and closed toe shoes are the only requirements for the “Hot” pits. Nothing says how tight on the pants… or how high the heels…

Wait, why didn’t I make this list? :frowning:

If you guys aren’t sufficiently cooked at Road Atlanta we have a pretty good field for our region forming for the August 13-15 Mid Ohio event. We have 9 locals committed, would love to make it to double digits with some outsiders. This is about as good as its going to get at Mid Ohio unless you want to wait till Nationals next year.

You were part of the “…” which is shorthand for “married/engaged has-beens who haven’t entered a race in months and have broke-down ‘race cars’ in need of significant repairs.”

Feel better?

You did make the list, “Whatever happened to…”

Wait, my car is fixed now! So I will be racing again soon! Now it is just a matter or work slowing down…

Bill - if it makes you feel any better I didn’t make Robert’s list either. You can clearly see where his preferences are now…

Robert who?

ScottMc, good one.
When comming up with that list it started as thinking how big of a field we could have if everyone did show up for a race.

Whatever happened to Tom Brewster(?) was that his name?

A very reliable source informed me that in the interest of preserving symmetry one must hitchhike to pick up an Alfa, since that will be what you’ll be doing on the way home after it breaks down.

Alfa == Always Looking For Another… For parts!

If I can get the head on the car and figure out how to change the timing belt and tensioner in time, I’ll be there.

This may be the most mediocre smack talk thread ever.

43 in Lightning. 16 Spec E30s. Here’s the list as of today:
1 Schwartz, Johan
112 WALSH, DAVID
113 Lako, Steven
168 Childress, Kelly
191 Palacio, Eric
211 Turnipseed, Warren
241 Patton, Robert
271 Peterman, Andrew
289 Wooten, Shaun
38 Levie, Jim
401 Taylor, Charles
5 Stroup, Jonathan
53 Switzer, Fred
6 Gress, Scott
71 Bratton, Richard
911 Patton, Laura

My money is on Johan, Palacio, Walsh (or was that Lako’s car?) & Patton. The rest of the pack should be a helluva race, too. With Ranger and Levie’s new straightaway talent… LPatton’s always-strong cop car… FishMan’s “Spec” E30… Chuck (I’m done with e Commerce, now let’s RACE) Taylor…

Who else is gonna mix it up? 'seed’s brightest, reddest E30 ever? Kelly (go ahead and protest me for my illegal IX side skirts) Childress? What kind of voodoo stuff does Pshrink have in store for Levie & Ranger?

I might just have to figure out a good excuse to come watch this mess!:woohoo:

Well I have had the bodywork repaired from the Dec. incident with Johann. I am not going to make this race but I plan coming back for either the Nov. CMP race or Dec. RA event. I need to show all these new guys they aren’t as fast as they think they are:woohoo:

I’ve been wrenchin’ and the Fish Car is as “spec” as the rest out there. If you’d like to come look her over, please feel free to do so. I’ve added ballast, pulled 148 on the dyno, and the gearing is correct. I may be new at this, but I don’t need to be cheatin’ to mix it up out there!

Steve, why aren’t you racing this weekend? Are you scared?
