NASA-SE: Hotlanta Challenge, Aug 7-8, Road Atlanta

#1

NASA-SE proudly presents the annual Hotlanta Challenge! at Road Atlanta in Winder, GA on August 7-8, 2010. This will be a fun filled event that promises to exceed all previous levels of NASA-SE quality events. We will have our normal schedule starting on Friday evening and continuing through out the weekend. This event includes:

High Performance Driver’s Education (HPDE) - drivers of all makes and models of cars can sign up and begin at the novice level (HPDE 1) and work their way to advanced driving skills. All drivers start with classroom instruction as well as an in-car instructor to guide you to drive your car at the limits. All of this takes place with the safety of a racetrack under controlled conditions.

Teen Driver Survival School - We concentrate on all of the issues that teenagers need to know. We have intense classroom sessions followed by on track exercises on a wet skid pad and the Auto-X course. We teach your teen everything they need to know to stay alive on the streets.

Time Trials (TT) - Drivers will compete for their fastest lap times and win all types of contingency money and prizes. The beauty of TT is the fact that you can do all of this with only your street car and a helmet!

Sprint Races - All of the standard NASA classes will be participating, 944Spec, SpecBoxter, American Iron(AI), Factory Five Racing (FFR), German Touring Series (GTS), Honda Challenge(HC), Performance Touring(PT), SpecE30, SpecMiata, Super Unlimited(SU), Super Touring(ST), etc. Cars will be split up into groups and the racing will be intense to watch and participate in!

Hope hpde3 doesn’t fill up because I won’t be able to register until payday.

Wish I was already in HPDE3. I will be doing HPDE2. Looks like the Spec E30 guys are paddocked on the other side of the track again. Since I have to go to class I will stay on the side with the HPDE cars. Looks like there are a ton of E30s in 2 and 3.

I would suggest paddocking with the Spec guys anyway. We did in March and I know I’m going to again unless they kick me out. There is much to be learned just hanging out with the guys who are racing and they’re a great source of assistance if you have any trouble. They’re also right next to the bridge so it’s not hard to get to class. It is a bit of a drive around for the start of each session, but you can come back in on the inside, so there’s no extra effort there. I’ll be handling my car in group 3 and my brother will have it in 2.

Come on by and paddock with us. Matt is correct, you’ll learn lots-o-stuff…Also it is a good opportunity to get to know who you are racing with (or will be racing with) and their racing style.

How many others will be at RA?

I was on the other side in March, but I paddocked with them at Roebling Road. I know they won’t kick me out, but it is a pretty long drive all the way back up the hill over the bridge back down the hill and then to the classroom, but if you can do it, then I can do it, haha. I’m hoping to get there on Friday as soon as the track opens up to get teched and ready for Saturday.

I was really looking forward to this event but I won;t be able to make it. Upcomming wedding in Oct. and an out of work future other half don’t help things. Plus I have the yearly inventory at work that weekend. I would much rather be at the track then couting a warehouse full of 15,000 tires or so. It is not going to be fun. Oh well, maybe I will get to see you guys in December.

Theironman, don’t let those little things keep you fom living on “The Dark Side”. We all have something or the other trying to pull us back to that blinding light our better halves call 'Real Life"

I’m in. {Though I just repaired my ez-up and checked the Cool Shirt. It’s gonna be HOT.}

My excuses (in no particular order):

  • still haven’t fixed the loose RTAB bolts on the right rear
  • saving up to race at Barber in September with SCCA so I can maintain my national license with them
  • August + Road Atlanta = Heat Stroke
  • Didn’t want to steal another win from Eric
  • that is the weekend after my daughter’s birthday so I should probably hang around that whole week and - according to Robinson - reintroduce myself

I might sneak away to watch y’all put on a show. I think my RA1s were in decent shape after the June race in case any of you Atlanta folks want to swing by and borrow them. I probably won’t be in the E30 again until December. :frowning:

Steve, I’m sure its to late to do anything about it for the September one, but I would love to do Barber again. Whats involved in getting an SCCA License? Specifically, would I need to run X number of regional races before coming to a national race or do they run them in combination?

#13

Oh and dang, I hate you wont make RA. I was hoping to catch you sleeping on the restart again!! :stuck_out_tongue: :pinch:

#14

Speaking of hot anyone got some air conditioned trailer floor or whatever I can sleep on instead of in my blazing hot truck.

#15

I’ll be there, I’m instructing. So that means if any of you DE guys want a Spec E30 guy as an instructor you can request me!

Maybe Jim will let me run a race??

Sorry guys, I posted the wrong paddock map for August - we are using the outside paddock only again this time.

The Barber weekend is a regional, so you can use your NASA license. I am not sure of the particulars, but I think you have to be an SCCA member to register, which allows you to race under your NASA license. Admittedly, I have never done a race with SCCA under NASA reciprocity so don’t take this as gospel.

I probably confused it by mentioning my national SCCA license. In order to keep it active, I have to race 4 regional races or 2 nationals I think. I will race 3 regionals at Barber and the 13 hour at VIR. Kinda stupid to race 4 races to keep a license with an organization I struggle to find time to race with.

PS - I think you anticipated that I would be snoozing - and that prediction came true. Dangit.

I’m supposed to get a check ride in HPDE2, and I would love to have a SpecE30 guy as an instructor for some sessions.

Another opportunity for Barber would be the PBOC event in November. They have let me race under my NASA license. Or if you have a BMW CCA license that also works.

I’ll be happy to ride with you for a couple of sessions. Find me and we’ll take a look at the schedule and pick some runs that won’t interfere with my students runs. I’ll be paddocked with the E30 guys my car is white and will be #22 at this event.
