[quote]Hello fellow NASA-SE racers! Please take a moment to look at the NASA-SE schedule for 2007:

Feb 10-11 CMP
Mar 16-18 Road Atlanta
Apr 14-15 Rockingham
May 19-20 Roebling
June 16-17 Rockingham
July 14-15 CMP
Aug 10-12 Road Atlanta
Sept 29-30 Roebling
Oct 13-14 Barber

From the above, you will note that there is a total of 9 events and 18 races. Standard NASA CCR rules state that season-ending 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places go to the racers that have accumulated the most points. Being realistic, Laura Patton, Chuck Taylor, and I stand the best opportunity to accumulate points because we are required to be at every event. The CCR rules do allow you to drop 10% of the races (I’m guessing that would be 2) but to be competitive with those three people that will be at each event, you would need to attend at least 8 events/16 races. This is difficult to do.

Having said that a full schedule is difficult, we have found a sponsor that is willing to host a SpecE30 cup for the Southeast region similar to that of the 944 cup. We talked with Jim Pantas about this idea and have worked out the logistics to make this cup a reality. The six cup events will be:

March 16-18 Road Atlanta
May 19-20 Roebling
June 16-17 Rockingham
July 14-15 CMP
Aug 10-12 Road Atlanta
Oct 13-14 Barber

This is six events/12 races. Your final points tally for the SpecE30 Cup will be determined by your best 10 out of 12 races. If there is a tie the winner is the racer with the most total points. You will also note that the Southeast SpecE30 Cup includes at least one race at each track. The points will be scored using the same numerical system that is in effect for NASA-SE.

The trophy for Southeast SpecE30 Cup will mirrorl the trophy used for the 944 Cup. We envision the Southeast SpecE30 Cup series to run for many years, thus the trophy will come with a large name plate area where you can add names each year. The winner will be responsible for the cup until the following year’s trophy ceremony. The 2nd and 3rd place drivers will receive a plaque at the end of each year.

The SpecE30 cup should provide a fun outlet for those racers in the Southeast that will not be able to attend all NASA-SE events. So, for Southeast racers, you will have two opportunities to win "big cash prizes," hug lots of trophy girls (guys for Laura), and drinks lots of beer and SpecE30 Cup margaritas: the Southeast SpecE30 Cup and the NASA SE points program.

Time to update the Cup for 2009…

The 2007 winner: Mike Skeen
The 2008 winner: Mike Skeen

Time for a new name on the Cup as Skeener will not be with us this year. Or will he do selected events?

You can read the history behind the Cup thing.

For 2009 the tracks/races that count:
CMP 5/2-3
Barber 5/30-31
RA 6/13-14
Lowes 7/3 (both races count)
RA 8/8-9

It is over after RA in August because I seriously doubt AMP will be finished this year.

Same format: we count one race weekend from each different track; throw 2 RA weekends in to get a good number of races; drop your worst 2 of 10 races and we’ll see how the numbers work out for 2009.

Comments?

Just wondering…

Al, I think I know the answer to that question after my weekend.
