Better yet, only Barber and Road Atlanta races count.

Well, 8 weekends, 16 races (?), best accumulated score from any 8 races. Tie goes to most wins, most 2nds, most 3rds, etc. Or maybe best two finishes at each track.
Is this strictly for amateurs? If so Skeen since youāre now a movie star I think youāre disqualified.
Can we get a ruling on this?
Just no triple point races at Barber. National donāt count either.
Canāt some math-wiz come up with some crazy points system like a the quarter back rating that factors in finish position, fastest lap time, qually times and beers consumed?
Nevermindā¦ if we did that, we should just go ahead and give the damn thing to Travis.
Okay, here goes for 2008 (especially since the year is 25% over).
Iāve procrastinated so long because:
a) I wanted to see the race results so farā¦
b) Intutively I knew we would do the same thing as last year.
The schedule is the same as last year. Count the best 10 of 12 races. Tie goes to the racer with the most 1st place finishes.Secondary tie: winner is the one with the most 2nd place finishes.
Races the make up the 2008 Cup:
March-Road Atlanta
May-Roebling Road
June-Barber
July-CMP
August-Road Atlanta
Thus far that is the same schedule as last year (substitute Juneās Barber for Rockingham).
Now for the Cups final eventā¦well consider the following:
a) Rockingham would be cool 'cause it is a different track and that is what the Cup encompasses, race results from different tracks. But the Rock is only one week after the Nationals. So do we cast in stone (pun intended) the Rock, or
b)hold off for the possible race at High Rock in October?,or
c) Jacksonville in November? Well, then it would be best 12 of 14 races.
Iām not going to consider stretching it out until Road Atlanta in December.
Iām thinking b), if not then a).
Iāll call Pantas to see how b) is shaping up.
Regards, Robert Patton
Steve, no doubt he is the best racer the SE has. JP and Damion are doing great too. Robinson and Travis are making top 5 finishes.
Skeen may be able to move on to bigger things. Weāre club racing and it will be a credit to the next Cup winner to have his/her name beside Skeenās '07 inscription.
Robert, I think High Rock and Starke are both out for this year (potential Oct/Nov dates) but do we want to put an enduro into the mix?
Doesnāt have to be 3 hours, Pantas said we can run a shorter race within the 3-hour format.
How about 75 minutes, no (mandatory) driver change, one mandatory 5 minute pit stop, to take fueler speed out of the equation, and give people a chance to gulp some fluids? Run the mini-enduro on the Friday of the July CMP weekend? Make it double-points in the Genos cup to encourage everybody to sign up and run? If we could get 10 or more SpecE30 cars in the enduro, that would be a fun race.
Okay, Chuck mini-endur becomes option d).
I kind of like it, only not the double points thing. Best 9 out of 11?
Or do we do a) the Rock? (I know you wonāt be there.)
Some may not like the requirement to show up on a Friday (though it might not be an issue). What about giving up practice on a Saturday for a longer race?
Steve, glad you are intrigued.
Robert, the mini-enduro could be part of the Cup (ok, with single-points) regardless of how or where the season ends. Since CMP is already a Cup weekend, people who are chasing it will be there so itād be a good time to slip in an extra points race. If you donāt want to force people to run the enduro, make 3 races drop-able in the Cup calculations.
Iād say push the enduro AND make a decision on a season-ending race (likely the Rock)
I like the enduro being included. I just think it should be part of the 2008 enduro format, which would be 3 hours.
Oh waitā¦ Iām not in the running? So why would I care.
Do whateverā¦ Iāll be at all SE races that arenāt at Barber
I talked to Jim, and he is already planning to offer a shorter enduro-within-the-longer enduro option and reduced price for July. Donāt know the exact figure, but it would be less than the other enduros have cost so far.
Mike, the idea of trading practice for a longer race could be explored, but it would involve our entire race group, not just SpecE30. Would likely make it harder to get agreement on.
Scott, there was discussion of a joint race, hosted by the NASA FL and SE regions, at a track under renovation/expansion near Starke, FL (i.e. Jacksonville) At one point, there was a tentative event on the calendar for Nov 2008 which would have been this locale.
However, the track work isnāt keeping pace (do they ever?) so the idea has been scrapped for 2008. I suspect Jim and the FL folks will try this notion again for sometime in 2009.
So, unless something really unusual happens, the tail end of the NASA-SE season will feature the Nationals from Mid-Ohio, then Rockingham (both in September) and the season-ending event at RA in December.
Understood, thx. 2hrs from me. Dang, thatād be nice. That would mean 4 tracks (RR, RA, Rock & Jax) w/in 5hrs.
My nameās Scotty Gress and I live in the middle of the greatest concentration of road courses in the world. Itās a fine time to be an American with a race car.
