NASA-SE: 2009 Barber Classic, Barber, May 30-31

#21

I would love to make this race, but I think my budget is done until I sell a Miata. Or a kidney.

I love Barber. First rate facilities, a great combo of long sweepers, a gut-check kink, blind apexes, downhill braking into the horseshoe. Add to that my opinion that it is not a horsepower track…

Anybody want to let me co-drive the enduro in exchange for a set of 888’s with 4 CMP heat cycles (one of which was distressingly short).

I have a gut feeling this may be one of the last times (if not the last) NASA SE will ever run at Barber again…you guys on the fence may want to consider that. See you all in a few weeks!

If I make the 488 mile trek (I just mapped it), I’d be willing to give you the lions share of seat time in the enduro. Have they said how long it’s going to be? Last I saw on nasaforums, was a 90 minute. That’s not even a full tank of gas… or an enduro for that matter.

#24

The event page says Enduro on Sunday from 3:30pm-5:00pm. Last event of the day.

Jones, I didn’t event think about this being the last event at Barber, but you’re probably right (at least in the near future).

I’m planning to be there, but need to get a few things done to the car before I commit.

#25

For those in the know, why do you think this is going to be the last time at Barber?

There are a number of reasons why it would make sense to drop the event, but in its simplest form…

Most expensive track / least turnout. Do the math.

I personally would hate to see it go because I think it’s a great track and it’s definitely the closest to me. I’ve never had a problem with the staff, but some of the rules/restriction are occasionally comical. Everyone I’ve talked to from an operational standpoint acts like it is a real hassle dealing with Barber and Barber doesn’t even care if cars come or not. They are so focused on motorcycles that cars are just a nuisance (other than the high profit Porsche schools).

*edit - I am nowhere close to “in the know”! Just throwing out my opinion.

#29

'm in for Barber.

Who knows, with luck the car might actually have a working starter by then…

#30

The car doesn’t need a starter for Barber. We are on the second level, uphill of the grid. So you can roll start the engine on the way to the grid.

We get the same turnout for CMP and we usually break even at CMP. Barber is three(3) times the cost of CMP. Same reason we don’t go to Rockingham anymore, it was a fun track but we needed 130 entries to break even and always averaged 100-110 entries.

If it’s a no show??? it’s a no go.

It’s like anything else in life. Go where the action is…

if i can get my nasa license squared away then i will be there to pass jim lavine again. lol sorry jim. i guess it helps to be an instructor for Barber’s and live in Birmingham. might have a trick or two up my sleve. wink wink. just dont watch me go through turn 2. lol

#34

Me and the Coat will be there. :woohoo:

#35

The Silver Bullet… locked and loaded!

  • It’s been six months since I’ve been on track. There’s my pre-excuse.

At least get the name right (Jim Levie)… Dream on dude, we were close at PBOC I found more speed after that, so all you’ll see is the back end of my car disappearing in the distance. I have a few tricks for Barber that you didn’t get to see, yet!

Get that car fixed and work out the license issues and we’ll settle this at Barber.

Sitting out again :frowning:

I’ve never been to Barber so I have a few questions. What’s the story on the following at Barber?

Camping
Power Hook-ups (Brian, this is not what you think :S )
If camping is a no-go… what’s a good place (cheap and close)
Is the paddock level… my e-brake just busted

Who can share some videos

Thanks

Camping: There is an upper level but no power, you can sleep on the lower levels in your trailer but only a couple of the levels have power - not exactly sure which ones tho’

Hotel: use the one on the NASA-SE site or if you want really cheap and close there is one just outside the gates of the track, but I think someone summed it up by saying that the Executive in Kershaw was nicer…

All four paddocks are fairly level

#40

Camping will cost you or not…depends on NASA. Power is available on the middle two tiers and is 25$ a DAY. No campsites very close.

I don’t have an ebrake either…use 2X4.

Scott, look me up and I’ll show you the lines. Will be there in a black e36M3 #195 and should be on the third tier next to the bath tower.

Do you have a TracMate? Chuck
