Mid-Ohio April 2010

#1

We are getting close to the season opener and was wondering who was planing on going. I have signed up and plan to be in my usual spot starting Thurday evening. The entire crew may actually be there as this is Spring Break week for school. Did not really make the rest of the family that happy to limit our vacation plans due to the race but then again they get all summer off too. I don’t think we will be camping this event but I am sure we will have enough food and parts for anyone in need.

So who else is coming? Who is doing comp school? Who needs an anual or a log book issued? I can do the anuals and log books if someone is in need. Save the line at tech.

Looking forward to a great year.

Sean’s planning on it in our #53 as long as it’s not snowing!
We don’t have an annual yet so we’ll keep that option in mind.
(he’s not on the forum as far as I know)

Rob and I are signed up for comp school and racing, still getting final prep done on the 8-Ball car, but the red car is teched and nearly ready, just needs oil change, coolant flushed and brake fluid flushed. Oh, and the new look done

We plan to get in thursday evening/night as comp school is bright and early friday morning.

You guys will enjoy the comp school. The Mid-Ohio School folks put on a pretty good clinic.

I’ll be up on Saturday and Sunday to crew for Sean. FASTtech #54 won’t be track ready until later this Spring. But it goes for its cage April 3rd!

As Jeremy stated, I’ll be there as long as there is no snow in the forecast. I’ll probably be arriving Friday morning so if anyone can save a spot in the usual SE30 area, it would be much appreciated!

Sean

I’ll be there. This will be my first time at Mid Ohio, so I’ll attempt to find the SE30 area haha.

#7

Hey look at that Sean’s on the board. Guess we’ll have to watch what we say about him now… :stuck_out_tongue:

#8

now if we can just get Rob to pay attention to these boards…

#9

I’ll be there in spirit, we had 2 boys tonight. Oliver & Elliot they are 4lbs and 4lbs 11oz. Mum is doing fine. Hope to see you guys soon.

#10

Congratulations Simon! Two new racecar drivers to contend with. Let the fun begin

#11

Two more Hunters in the Hunt. What could be better. congradulations to Simon and Shannon.

Need more Mid-Ohio Entries. Seems that after Sean actually signs up we will have 5 racers with me and Sean being the new “old guys” Anthony, where are you?

I’ll be there. Did tons of work to the car on Saturday. Dropped tranny, gas tank and rear subframe. New throwout bearing, shift selector rod (UUC DSSR), new gas tank (no more getting DQ’ed cause I leaked fuel and came in under weight), and camber/toe adjusters in rear. And added aux fan and new resovoir which has FINALLY fixed my overheating issues. Need alignment, wheel/tire mount/balance, and Annual.

This weekend I’ll be instructing the BMW Club Race school with our One Lap car. Should be fun

looking forward to our first race!

going to get annual tech today for the black car. Red car is ready to go! Can’t wait!

Go ahead and sign up if you have not. My estimates are that there should be 7 racers. Our biggest field yet. looking forward to a fun season.

Some updates:
The guys that went through the school on Friday all made it through.
Kevin’s clutch let go on Friday but thanks to some key late night help from Motorkars it was back in shape for today.
Gareth got a significant double tap from a SpecMiata during the morning practice but got the qtr panel fixed up for the race.
Kevin checked out the gravel for us in T7 after getting the squeeze from a 944… yup it’s still there in case you were wondering.
6 cars took the green today. Sounds like we have 10 cars in the region now, so we just need to get them all to show up at the same time!
Sean promises to actual make the grid on time for Sunday and not miss the pace lap! Great job making back up to P2!
No catching Anthony today, he took off at the start and was uncontested.
Reverend Rob (recently ordained) got passed by Kevin on the last lap. The Rev would like to help a certain 944 driver see the light.
Cameron’s learning the new track and getting faster every session. Says rear toe out can be fun.

Great time just hanging around with all the SpecE30 guys. It’s starting to feel like a small family.

Day 2:
Morning warm up: the Reverend skipped out, maybe the witnessing to the 944 driver wore him out, maybe he needed some beauty sleep, maybe his sunglasses were still recharging their shine. Sean showed Cameron around to help him get more acclimated to the track.

Qauli: nothing much to report, Anthony on pole, Sean was behind him. Seemed to be lots of traffic for most folks.

Race: start seemed clean from where we were watching but what we couldn’t see is Kevin got tapped in the left rear by a overly optimistic Prelude cutting across the top of 8 with 2 tires in the grass which left a nice dent and spun Kevin. We couldn’t see the damage from inside the track, all we saw was that he had dropped back. Sean got balked in the first corner with a lane choice that ended in a very slow 944. Rev Rob got by Sean somewhere, perhaps due to that same 944. Anthony pulled out to ~6 second lead over the next couple laps. Sean got around Rob and started closing up the gap to Anthony who had started on perhaps too high a tire pressure. Sean eventually passed Anthony for his first win! Congrats Sean!

Once again a great time hanging around with the SpecE30 crew. Can’t wait till Putnam.

Anthony, be sure and give us some links where we can follow along with your upcoming One Lap adventure.

It was nice to meet you guys today. I had to work afternoon turn yesterday so i could only make today’s activities.
I still think we should have done a write up on how to change a front E30 wheel bearing in less than a half hour.
Maybe by Fall, I can convince Gareth into an engine rebuild. I’ll have to get up to Ann Arbor to help him pull the dents out of the quarter panel soon too.

Gareth’s wrench.

Oh yeah and Kevin did a wheel bearing too; forgot about that one.

The wheel bearing change was definitely impressive.
