Mid Atlantic Invitational at VIR

#1

Youse guys invite us Southeast racers and maybe we’ll make the trip up to VIR. With the annuoncement of the VIR full course race on March 31,April 1 this could be a fun region-to-region special event. I’ll foot the bill for a 944 Cup type trophy for the combined winner of the MA Invitational and a Southeast Invitational that could be the March weekend at Road Atlanta. Okay, discuss… Regards, Robert (is it is okay to invite yourself to someone else’s party?) Patton

Don’t leave out the midwest :). I think we should make the Road Atlanta in March an invitational and this VIR Full - MA, another one. I will travel for both those tracks if we can pull a lot of racers together, but we should figure out one particular event for people to travel to once who are out of the region.

Simon, come on down to Road Atlanta in March! If we can get this concept to gain some momentum, along with more racers in Ohio and Indiana, we’ll make the "invitational theme" a three track affair and include a race at Mid Ohio. A have-to-be-there 'cause everyone eles is there tune-up race at MO would be great experience for the Nationals that follow in September. The East-of-the Mississippi invitational could be almost as prestigious as the nationals. And, as much as I like "show up and earn race start points"… well, maybe I’ll let someone else figure out how one would recognize an overall winner. Is this really a good idea? Regards, Robert (points are fun, points are not fun) Patton

DUH…The Southeast will host an invitational race at Road Atlanta in March. It is THE race where we hope to bring in racers from other regions. Come on down and kick our butts, drink our beer and take home our trophy.Mark this one as a can’t miss event.Best finish from the combined two races is the winner. In the event of a tie the winner is the one with the best lap time from the weekend’s qualifing or races. Second place finisher gets to purchase the beer for everyone else. We’ll leave it to other regions to issue their invitations.Further discussion… Regards, Robert Patton

I like the VIR deal. Vir full with 20+ cars would be awsome :woohoo:

Come on Robert, forget inviting them to Road Atlanta, lets call them out. Come on you Mid Atlantic pansies. it takes a real man or woman (for you Laura) drive Road Atlanta. Anybody can go fast around a place with no concrete walls. (VIR) Carter came down and laid the smack down on Robert and myself earlier this year, so lets see how many more of you have the guts to show up for '07.:stuck_out_tongue:

Seriouly though I am glad they added another VIR full course. Doing two races in 1 month puts a strain on me but it gives me an excuse to skip the Rockingham race in April:woohoo:

VIR March 31 & April 1 :woohoo: Looks like I’m gonna have to spend my birthday at the track.

This is the OH/IN schedule

April 20-22 - Mid-Ohio
May 19-20 - Putnam Park
June 9,10 - Grattan
July 13-15 - Mid-Ohio
August 18-19 - Mid-Ohio
September 13-16 - Mid-Ohio
October 6,7 - Putnam Park

I would suggest we make the July event as the invitional tune up. So we have Road Atlanta in March, VIR Full in March and Mid Ohio in July (I’m definitely not doing Mid Ohio 4 times!). Once the Northeast gets going I’ll be going back to the glen also. Man I better get my car finished before March!

Simon, in July the SE racers will be at CMP the weekend of your Mid Ohio race. But, the Mid Ohio, April race falls in an open date for SE and MA. Talk to Vic Hall, your regional director dude and let’s see what happens. Seriously speaking, I’ll talk to David Cullen here in the SE about the idea and youse guys can come down south and kick our butts, drink our beer and take away our throphy. Regards, Robert Patton

Post Script…Should this invitational thing be treated like a team event? Best combined finishes of three team members takes the cup back to their region? Have an overall cup winner too? Discuss…The off-season is boring. Regards, Robert (the ideas guy) Patton

That would be great an invitational cup. It could be like the Ryder Cup, you know where the europeans always win :stuck_out_tongue:

I think an invitational should have a single overall winner and a winning region. Average the finishing positions of everyone in each region for all races over the course of the weekend. Region with the lowest (best) average finishing position gets something (bragging rights, maybe a trophy), same for the single driver with the best average.

I don’t think you should have a single driver winning, that is what the championship race is for. This would just be for a bit of extra fun and also highlight races that we could travel to and get large fields. At least thats how I would see it.
