Man, I love Spec E30

I got a nice enevelope in the mail today. It was from Toyo and contained my rebate certificate for new Toyo tires. I did 4 races before my season ended for 2006 and earned $375.00 in rebates. How cool is that. My last car (IP e36 M3) used hoosiers that were $900.00 a set and were only competitve for a weekend. Ask me how tire much tire money I ever made back with that car. Not one penny. $480.00 for a set of toyos only leaves me $100 out of pocket for a new set that will last me easily 3 weekends. What took me so long to wake up and smell the coffee.:woohoo:

Congratulations on some great driving. BTW, are you getting shaved tires for $480 a set? If so do you mind sharing your source?

While the main point here is the fact that it’s nice to get a contingency check from Toyo, that kind of mis-information is uncalled for. I won the 2004 944 Cup Championship, set several track records and only used 3 sets of 225/45-15 Hoosiers for an entire season. (including some DE test days)

Case in point. I discovered an engine problem with my car 2 days before the Nationals. I rented someone’s spare car and bought a used set of last year’s Hoosiers (RS05’s) that another guy had in has basement for $200. According to him, they had 6-8 heat cycles on them. I ran them the entire time at Nationals and on Sat set the fastest 44Cup time of the weekend 1:46.2 and pole on these tires. Oh, BTW - at the post-race dyno the car was 14-20HP down on the other two cars that ran several sets of stickers.

Sorry for the rant, but this has been one of my biggest pet peeves going all the way back to my PCA Club Racing days where guys would say that Hoosiers were only good for a weekend. Hoosiers are competitive for at least 12 heat cycles and the only difference is how hard/long you have to push initially to get them back to temp/grip.

Well apparently you were racing some guys who weren’t very quick, because in IP in BMWCCA you better have a fresh set of hoosiers if you want to compete for a win. If you want to be a mid-back of the packer, fine run hoosiers that have 3 weekends on them. You’ll watch the field dissapear very quickly.

And another thing, you are comparing two totally different cars. Different weights, different sizes.

Hell in 944 cup you can win the chamionship without new tires. You just have to avoid being punted off the track or avoid the pile ups:whistle:

Guess we’ll have to find out on the track… :woohoo:

I have found them for as low as $113 per tire but that does not include shipping or shaving. Add it all up and you’ll be close to $145 per tire.

I got my last set locally at a really good price but in order to use the rebates you have to use the authorized supplier s listed on the NASA site.

What the heck is that supposed to mean? Are you bringing Hoosier’s to the track? If not, we won’t find out at the track.

It means that Mr. Moses thinks that I must raced with a bunch of lame drivers in order to win a Championship w/out buying a fresh set of rubber every weekend. Once I build the e30, we’ll be on level ground and we’ll find out.

Oh come on now, I didn’t say that. I just meant that they must not have been up to your level of skill. I didn’t say they were lame. I just know how it was where I came from.

OK, OK. Seems like it’s time for this thread to die. I spent that past 3 seasons doing '44Cup in the Mid-Atlantic and really enjoyed it so the "surviving the pileups" along with the other parts of the note were taken as hostile. I know that the little bit that I hang around with Carter and Cobetto is quite enjoyable and I am looking forward to a competitive, yet friendly series.

Hopefully, will have my car done in time to hit a couple of races this season, maybe starting at HyperFest. Hope to see you then :cheer:

Boys…;. you kill these thread just as it was gettin’ all hot… Weth a name like Mooses and Rupert I ain’t expectin’ either one of ya’ll to hitting the rubber… When’s the first race of the seeson?

#16

Actually, this group seems to be a more mature (in attitude, not necessarily in age) bunch compared to some of the other racing groups. It doesn’t bother me one-bit that we don’t have several winey, smart-ass, and obnoxious members writing things that they would never have the guts to say in person.

But yes, I like to see some good-hearted ribbing and expect some this season, as our numbers grow.

Regarding the first race this season, the Mid Atlantic (your region I believe) is starting Feb 24 at VIR.

ps. If Carlton and I co-drive in the VIR enduro, which of you is finishing second?

I can assure you that I won’t be finishing second…or first for that matter. :frowning:

Maybe I can find another rookie that doesn’t mind losing to co-drive with me. Any takers? You will need to be a 34" waist or smaller to fit my car and no taller than 6’.

Ken,

Let me check my plans for Feb, but if I decide to do the Feb. race, I would be happy to share a car with you if you are agreeable.
