Yo Sean, I heard a rumor Autobahn Reg.is closed…how many Spec E30’s do we have coming to the party? I know the beer tech pu$$ies aren’t coming… they can’t handle the beer consumption rate! Am I right Al?

Autobahn is closed. There are at least 20 Spec E30’s

Victor,

What is the format for a FATT? Does everyone get instructors? Never been to one and not sure how much track time you get for the $$. It is quite expensive for just the day.

Also, any prequalifications or is my racing licesnce enough?

Thanks,

Michael O.

Hi Michael,
There are generally 3 run groups:
o 1a - beginners
o 1b - same as 1a - just another group
o 2 and 2i - all one run group, the difference being that the 2i’s dont’ NEED an instructor.

Your race license and experience are enough to put you in the 2i group. At FATT, the instructors all hang out around pit-out, so you can ask anyone to ride along if you’d like. I’d be happy to hop in the car and show you the line.

With only 3 run groups, you get a lot of track time - 4 session of about 20-25 minutes. The instructors go on in the morning and after lunch, so we don’t cut into everyone else’s time by much.

It’s a good chunk of track time, and definitely helps tune you up before the race weekend.

Jens should be able to add anything that I forgot - he helps run the show at Summit.

I called but the lady said I needed an instructor and without a passanger seat that could be a problem. She also stated that it was not really set up to be a test and tune and when i mentioned tire temps and such she said that was not usually done.

So, I guess I will just skip FATT and hope for the best on Saturday.

Thanks for all the info.

Better than nothing; but FATT really is NOT ideal for ‘test & tune’. And is only OK for practice. The cross section of driver experience even in group 2 is very large. I don’t recommend FATT as a first choice to fellows such as ourselves.

Next year NASA should lobby BSR to schedule a ‘Seat Time’ or ‘Open Practice’ for the day prior rather than FATT. Check the schedule and see that before most SCCA events that is the case. At this point, NASA merits the same consideration I think!

We have to spend Friday setting up for all the Saturday activities and running a test day is a huge added administrative as well as staffing nightmare.
