HP/TQ Limits?

#1

Since I’ve been building my car I’ve heard talk of a HP/TQ limit placed on cars. As in, rather than having a strict set of rules and getting whatever power you can get out of the engine legally, the car will be dyno tested to make sure that no matter what it will not make more than Xhp or X ft/lbs. Any truth to this?

Yes.

Last year, we had a professional statistician (sp?) evaluate a stack of dyno sheets, of built motors and “junkyard” motors.

We have the data and hoped to test the program this year. However, unlike in the past, we haven’t had dynos at any Mid Atlantic events (except for Hyperfest) and I want to do some more testing/checking of the data.

We’ll have the data at the National Championship this year and will work with NASA and the attending Spec E30 drivers on how to use it for that event, and will hopefully then have a good program that works for Spec E30 drivers in every region.

Along with a few other issues, I will send this data to the Spec E30 Regional Series Directors so they can offer opinions on the design of the program.

Great! Thanks for the info. I’m rebuilding my engine next week, not so much because of power concerns but reliability concerns and it’s time to replace some worn parts. Everything’s OEM and within the rules. No porting, no polishing, no coatings etc…
