How Many E30s Do You Own?

#1

Slow day at work.
Noticed in Wes Flack’s signature that he has 4 e30s.
I know web site moderator at Bimmerforums, Greg Moberg has a few.
Chuck Taylor has several.
Michael Harness and Matt and dad have several.
Al Taylor can keep us entertained for days with e30 stories.
Tarvis is always buying and selling something.
Me, I’ve only owned 22, 11 of which are still on the road somewhere.

Others?

Post some photos and we can entertain on another.

I owned 2 while I was in Germany in the early 90’s. They were really fun.
2 SpecE30’s, 1 Lemons/Chump e30 (shared with Fred, JimL & AlK)
4 parts cars over the last 5 years. Much of which is stashed away in garage and attic. Nothing like Robert’s goldmine of parts tho.

This past week I made a 6hr roadtrip North to pick up a parts car but it was so thrashed that I declined. The next day I was scheduled to do a 6hr roadtrip S to pick up a different parts car and the loser sold it an hour before I was to depart. So instead I made a 4hr roadtrip and picked up an engine and tranny.

I remain sans parts car. My driveway is lonely. I have 4 pair of jackstands and they feel so unloved.

Currently 4 in family + 1 parts car

You loose control pretty quickly.
State Farm loves me. Neighbors hate me. City Code Enforcement Officer knows me.

1974 2002 (scrapped. sigh)
1991 318is (daily)
1989 325ic (parts car after NASA banned converts)
1988 325is (track car build in work)

1985 325e ( Son 1 Daily)

1992 325i sedan (Son 2’s driveway POS, now donor for E30 eng swap)
1989 325ic (Son 2’s E36 replacement, eng swap candidate)

  • four other non BMWs for wife + 2 girls.

Some day I just gotta replace that old school 2002. Hmmm M20 swap ???

  1. 91 325ic daily driver
  2. 89 325i Spec E30
  3. 89 325i rolling chassis in case #2 gets dead
  4. 84 318i rolling chassis in case I want to try big bumpers

gone
5. 86 325e parts car that ran too well so I sold it to a buddy
6. 89 325i roll-over car that donated its engine to #2
7. 86 325e with a blown HG that donated its manual drivetrain to #1

Frightening to think all that happened since early 2008.

One. Would like to add an E30 M3 to the stable one day. Don’t have anywhere to put one or a parts car, or I would probably have one.

#7

My spec car and the street car that was supposed to be a spec car.

87 Spec e30 : Matthew’s and my Southeast car

We also had a red 84 325e parts car that Steve ended up with the chassis.

  1. Never drove one til the first lap I turned in my SE30 a couple of weeks ago!

I’m on my second e36. Does that count for anything?

Just one. Same story as Kyle, 2 previous E36’s, one an M3. Current DD is an E46 M3 which is soon to be on the block for race money. Anyone need an extra E46?

#14

6 months ago I would have taken you up on that. I was looking at DD E46 M3s and 330cis late last year and bought a 330ci around Thanksgiving.

I’ve only owned 2 E30s: My brother and I shared a red '89 convertible from '03 to '05, which we really liked. It led me to the conclusion that the “fun” car I’d enjoy most after graduating college would be an E30 track car, so I bought my '87 325i and started building.

I have two E30s at the moment…

Quite an assortment of cars. Thanks to all that have posted thus far.
I love the pictures, wish I’d taken some of the previous cars I’ve owned.
I’ll try to scrounge up some of the e30 pickup project.

Awesome. Just awesome.

Here’s a pic of my 2nd e30 a (Euro) 323i. Sports springs, high compression and leaded gas. Pick was taken in the Spring of 1994 in Austria coming back from a glacier ski trip.

The ski rack doubled as a bike rack. This was back at my very peak in triathlon and I was doing a ton of cycling. Spring to Fall I’d routinely put the road bike on top of the car, drive in any direction for a hundred miles, ride hard for a 2-3hrs, stop in at a village “fest”, drink beer and chat up the local girls, and ride hard back to the car.

1993 European Cycling Championships. Crashed out of the road race, didn’t finish the criterium but did well in the time trial. Altho that Walt Disney jersey seems rediculous now, within the context of being surrounded by serious cyclists that all seemed to be the size of middle-school girls, it was pretty funny at the time.
