Hello - currently building my car.

#1

Hello everyone

I just found this forum while following a write up from Brain. I’m currently building my 1986 325es to run in SU next summer (you can follow the build up at http://dpmotorwerks.com/RaceStart.htm along with the piece that brought me here).

Anyway, I wanted to say hello and not look like I’m a total lurker on these boards

welcome

that’s a cool writeup but there are several non-spec E30 items in the spreadsheet so make sure you read the rules.

cheers,
bruce

Alex - you may want to consider building for SO rather than SU. I don’t know that you will have any SU cars to race against next year.

Thanks for the replies. I know the spread sheet has a few items that are against the rules, but they’re only going to be in/on the car for AutoX events.

I looked into converting the car over for SO, but because the car is an ES it will always be SU - even if I put IS components in it…unless I’m reading the rules wrong. Aside from that it will probably be a while before I run competitively - this is a learning car

In the meantime I’m having fun building it!

Also, if you didn’t know, the kit you have listed from Turner does not use the H&R Race springs that are required for SpecE30. I sure as hell wouldn’t protest you for running a softer spring though (unless you beat me of course).

SO vs SU depends on the engine.
9.3.2. Engine Swapping
9.3.2.1. Cars that do not have an original type engine, (e.g. the engine was not available in the model, chassis and year of the car), shall be classed based upon the vehicle for which the engine was original.
9.3.2.2. The car shall meet the weight minimum of the chassis, model and year for which the engine was originally available in the chassis of a US model, (e.g. it will assume the characteristics of the donor car).
9.3.2.2.1. Location and maximum ballast weight allowed is specified in 9.3.13.
9.3.2.3. Swapping or mixing of engine components between different engine types is not permitted, (i.e. mating the head from a M40 engine with the block from a M10).

Things like bumpers, though, must stay original to the year of car.
cheers,
bruce

Okay - let me get some DE under my belt and I’ll make a decision then.

Thanks!

I’ve updated the list and converted it to .pdf (easier viewing) to better show the costs and I took off some of the things that weren’t Spec E30 related. Let me know if I’ve got anything wrong - I’m new at this.
