Good Mechanic in/around Durham, NC?

#1

Can anyone recommend a halfway knowledgeable BMW wrench in-or-around Durham, Roxboro or Hillsborough, NC (Raleigh’s okay, just not preferable)?

I’m doing an HPDE with the Tarheel Chapter at VIR next weekend and the registrar is being rather strict in not allowing me to tech my car myself. (That and I need someone I can trust if I get in over my head on a problem with the E24.)

Thanks.

Hey Dan - did you check out the sponsors page - http://tarheelbmwcca.org/sponsors.htm - several shops are listed.

Kormann would likely do it.

Yeah, I know about Kormann (Greensboro), Krause (Raleigh) and 1stClass (Raleigh) – it’s just that they’re all about an hour away, which really sucks if I have a major problem with the E24 or if it’s above 90° (the E30 is sans A/C). Plus, the "Sponsors" have the cash to ‘sponsor’ the tarheel chapter because they charge an Arm & a Leg.

Dan,

Maybe Tarheel would let us tech each other’s cars here in Durham. :woohoo:
He’s not a lot more convenient than Krause and England, but Truett Ray at Shade Tree Garage (search on line) on Old Creedmore is a real expert in older BMWs. He took care of my E30 before I purchased it. He knows a lot more about these cars, I believe, than many of the other "race" shops and his labor rate is only like $60 or $65 per hour.

I’ll look forward to meeting you at VIR,
Sasha

I used Korman for my Diff rebuild and was extremely happy with their work…price withstanding

Steven at Truitt Ray’s is the man, they are off NC 98, real easy to get to from Durham.
