Did you check out that rear trailing arm/bearing real good???

Me: bent broken wheel, SNAPPED swaybar end link, bent banana

You: ?

Everything happens for a reason…the outer ball joint on the lower control arm was SHOT…I may not have found it. Which makes me wonder…we are seeing a lot of front bearing issues, this ball joint was fresh, maybe 10k road miles and 7 events…Does the camber/wheel/sidewall package we have really wear this stuff out quick? I mean it really is not that radical a package…are we get counterfeit parts??

I change the front lower control arms every other season and wheel bearings as needed. We certainly had wheel bearing issues at VIR but it’s still very unusual.

(Now taking a spare front wheel bearing to each race)

I took a look at everything under there and it all looked ok. I changed the wheel and took it for a spin around the neighborhood, and no weird noises. Now you have me worried. I will put it up on the trailer tomorrow so I can see if there are problems when a load is applied to the suspension. Otherwise, I suffered a bent wheel only.

FYI. I am going to change out the brake switch tomorrow on your recommendation. I never had a problem teching it. Must only happen in the heat of battle

Also, do you want me to bring the cat this weekend or is your car already filled to the gills?

Ditto on taking a spare wheel bearing to the track. I had 2 at home in the garage, but didn’t help me at the track. This also speaks to the issue of having a core set of spares among our group - to help keep folks on the track. I also got a set of new studs from Dan, of which I am very grateful of, to use with our new front hub and bearing.

Yo Steve

Car is loaded to the max…That was your passenger side correct? I may be able to round up a control arm just in case…of course if it was way out of line you could probably see it…I cant understand what broke my wheel and peeled it back in such a way…it might actually have been the asphalt/curb

Agreed on the parts bin…As always, my shed is available for pilfering about 25 mins from Summit point.
I am 99% sure I am going to Nationals to Crew for Cobetto and am bringing a stash of parts including strut tubes, CA’s, tie rods, ECU, ABS brain(hey, it is small),plug wires, and whatever else I can think of. I do have an old style radiator too

Carter,

In reviewing the schedule of events for Mid-Ohio I noticed at the top of the Thursday schedule it mentions a mandatory drivers meeting at 8PM Wednesday evening.

How "mandatory" is this meeting? I had planned on leaving Wed but getting there later in the evening.

thanks,
ed

Ed:

They are usually pretty serious about evening meetings, especially at a national event.

However, you might email Chris Cobetto to ask if they are taking roll. If not, I’ll take good notes for you.

FYI everyone, when the Cobetto’s moved, they had to get different internet service so the comcast.net addresses are no longer valid. you can email me for the new address.

Alex,Al,Steve, others…how about a race report from Mid-Ohio. Heck, it’s Wednesday and there is nothing posted.Come on guys, don’t keep us in the dark. Regards, Robert Patton

We were too slow running… and too slow to write a report. It is a very fun but challanging track. Both Vic and I learned alot. Our fast laps compared to an E30 hot shoe whose home track is Mid-Ohio (Michael O’s) were about 2-3 seconds slower on Saturday and 1 - 2.5 seconds slower on Sunday.

The race was never a contest between the SpecE30 crowd: Vic won both races.

Vic can tell you all more about his entry into the Drifting Hall of Fame exiting turn 1. I had a crazy ride at the end of the back straight when someone was kind enough to drop some fluid on the track. I did about 3 turns with no damage and no collisions.

The real excitement came off the track where Vic and I spent the better part of Saturday working on our tow vehicles (Water pump for Vic, Three valve stem failures for me). Needless to say, it was an exciting trip to the track.

All in all it was fun and a good learning experience.

Steve, Osborne is a fast racer in a fast car. To be 1-2.5 behind is not necessarily a bad thing. Was Big Al there?

That he is… I tried following him out of one of the corners and he was gone! I mean… really gone… At first I thought I was just that slow, but learned he had grippier tires and I think a faster diff. Oh… and he knows the track blindfolded

Yes, Big Al decided to do an HPDE instead of race. Probably a good choice since we all were new to the track.

It was actually pretty funny on Saturday when we were having the driver’s meeting and Al is out there puttering along in his car during lunch. It was quiet on the track, except for Al puttering along doing touring laps.

So, if there is anyone to watch out for at Nationals, it would be Al. He got the most laps in out of any of us
