You’re all bloody bastards! No more race reports until my car is finished, thanks
First NASA SE Race at CMP 2/10-11
I watched Tom Hall at HPDE in Rockingham and knew he would be fast. Congratulations on your finish Tom…I was really looking forward to racing against you. Your first race, a one hour deal…how perfect is that. No doubt CMP will always be your favorite place.
There will be no excuses for not making RA. I registered today, you better be there. Tell your Mom I will watch my mouth, bring coffee and brats.
Good stuff this weekend. Saturday was my 1st race since comp school. Qualifying was bad since it didn’t happen for me. The Rev. Alonzo G. Taylor III esq. traced the problem to the fuel pump, and we quickly changed it out. I started the race dead last and ended up 5th in class. Sunday went better…good qualifying, and a decent start. Kelly and I had a plan, but it went south when I came into turn 4 and he was on the 4wd course. I went 2 wheels in the air, sideways through turns, locking up brakes, and 4 wheels off running with Robert. I’m suprised my car still runs. Mr Patton beat me, but I did learn a few tricks from him (none of which I will be sharing:whistle: ). All in all, it was a fun weekend. I’m looking forward to VIR in 2 weeks.
Travis
I finished 4th both days…which I am OK with as I had old tires…(excuse #1) I ran my fastest lap on lap 19 of the one hour race, and was really happy that my tires stayed consistent thru that race. Saturday sucked as I did not get a qualifying lap due to a certain 911 Turbo and during the race my front tires went away, Travis was closing on me and would have had me…One thing I think of note is that Travis and Robert did not spin out all weekend and they were laying down some fast times consistently. Also I think Travis ran the Sunday race on old tires, to save his"newer" ones for VIR…The MA guys had better look out. I will have fresh tires and brakes for VIR, how about a Malt Liquor Tech/ATSC front row???
Al
PS I had brats, cooked on my ex manifold, but no takers…
Great reports guys! I wish I had been there.
And Robert is correct when he says that clean driving helped his weekend. Good words from a smart racer. This same strategy landed him in second at the national championship last year.
Close and exciting racing is what Spec E30 is all about!

Right now we are planning on having the car out in April at Putnam where I’ll instruct for a driving school. Mid Ohio is the next weekend so if all goes well I’ll do that as my first event. I still want to make it down to Road Atlanta but it will probably be the August event, I’ll just have to deal with the heat. Apart from that I will do the IN/OH schedule. I really want to go to VIR but I might wait till next year and join everyone there then.
To add to Carter’s post: good friends, and close and exciting racing, are what the Spec e30 thing is about.
But, Tom and Damion, hows come I didn’t get any stinkin brats? And, Taylor was grillin 'em on the exhaust? It musta been the deodorant that I forgot to bring for the weekend.
Have fun, Robert Patton
I actually had a plan for the weekend. Do the Comp School and don’t mess up so bad that Jim won’t sign me off. I kept to the plan and I am looking forward to the ATL race.
I was dreadfully slow in the race due to a couple of things that will be corrected for the Atlanta race. I did have a great time seeing the leaders a couple of times. Quite a sight.
Looking forward to seeing everybody at Road Atlanta.

What dad forgot to leave out was that he passed and lapped me on his way to his .2 second victory. Oh well. I’ll get him back at Roebling.
CMP and being sick didn’t make for a great combination for my race, but I had a great time with all the guys. It’s great to see the pack of E30’s growing. I was just glad to get back out on track after about a four month break. Saturday’s race went well. We decided to combine the Lightning and Thunder groups in order to cut down on time because we had a Porsche that decided it would be a good idea to oil down the track. It was pretty intense to race with all the high horsepower guys.
Sunday was good too. Enduro’s are definently a test of a drivers ability. It’s pretty crazy trying to run all out for an hour. I had some good competition between Stroup, Marshall, and Hall so it made for an event filled race and some great initiation back for the 2007 season.
Hope to see everyone out at Road Atlanta in March. It should be a blast and the bigger the pack the better.
Here is in car video from the endurance race. Like I said earlier… each race I do I learn some more. It’s embarassing how much I am sawing at the wheel at the beginning of the race. I did have a pretty good save after the king around the 371/2 minute mark (hit a little too much of the bump).
Good times

Whose car is the white one? I like the bumper cover.
Thats Jonthan Stroup’s car. Its a GTS challenge car. I think it has some kind of m50 swap. I believe he runs in GTS2
