FAASST - Familiarity or Experience with them?

I’m considering registering for their driving school @ Roebling this Spring or Fall… their site has some great testimonials, and NASA endorses them, but I was wondering if anyone here could say anything about the FAASST school…?

I think that you could gain twice the skills at 1/4 the price by giving Mike Skeen a call and setting up some personal coaching. A shake and bake racing school means you get only a fraction of the instructor’s attention and issues are thrown at you too fast to retain all the details, much less work on them.

Or choose 4X the skills at 1/2 the price. There’s just a limit to how much a person can develop in a couple short days, in an environment where there are more students than instructors.

I wouldn’t be quite so negative on racing schools.
In general (not referring to Mike specifically here) fast drivers aren’t necessarily good teachers - some don’t even really know why they’re faster than others, or have forgotten what epiphany they had that helped them get to the next level.

FAASST started in the Rocky Mountain region (owned by Judy Faass). I’ve heard some good things about her and their schools but don’t have any direct experience.
cheers,
bruce

FWIW Skeen was my Second ever DE instructor, and still ranks in the top 2 only Bob Shields out instructs him.

If only I wasn’t to green to get what he was telling me!!

Well, Bob has a couple years on me, so I guess I can take that. I would be interested to hear (in an e-mail maybe) what you liked better because I do like instructing and always look for ways to improve/change my style.

I don’t have any input on the FAASST school, but I have been involved with some other schools to varying degrees. They all have their pros and cons, but it depends on what you are looking for and what you have already done. Do you want to drive faster? Do you want to race better? Do you want to learn your car better? Do you want to learn a particular track better? Feel free to send me an e-mail, I’d be happy to give advice (whether you want my services or not).

Gilles,
Just in case you don’t know who Mike Skeen is (and are looking for a reference) - he is a the phenom racer that swept Spec E30 last year (Mid-Atlantic, SouthEast and National champion). He also, in my opinion, is very responsible for turning the SouthEast guys into a highly competitive group of skilled racers. He helped me out at Rockingham, and I owe him at least a couple seconds there. He also happens to be a stand-up guy, and I would definitely let him date my sister

-Vic

P.S. Skeen, bad news for you is that I don’t have a sister (unless you consider BeerTech to be Salazar’s sister, which I do.)

JP has always had quite a man crush on Skeen. Maybe you could set up a date with him?
