East Coast Championships Stories and Videos

Sandro I really wish you were cheating. It would make that amazing run easier to swallow and make me think I have a chance. At least tell me you had an illegal headlight or something.

There is a couple pics of our hosed up start among them. I tried to post a link but the site flips thru pics so a link doesn’t really work.

The video is just the first half of the race which was constant battle on all sides in knife-fighting range. I started, surprisingly, 17th of 40 in a group that includes many that have skills that are honestly indistinguishable from magic. I pissed away the good starting position within a couple of turns tho because I just wasn’t aggressive enough and rolled over like a patsy.

After a couple laps of getting my ass kicked I set up for a pass in turn 10, but screwed it up and overshot my mark. I had to slow way up to stay on the track and that cost me 3 positions. Then a couple laps later, in the same damned place, I found something slippery and off the track I went. That cost me 7 positions .

The most terrifying moment of the race was slipping off the turn 5 exit gators into the gravel. Only barely in control I managed to keep the car pointed in the right direction. There was a bit of a ledge between the end of the gravel and the racing surface and when the car hit the ledge it leaped up into the air like a scalded cat. That scared 10yrs off of my life.

I did manage to get back some of the lost positions. Aided, sadly, by the pair of high profile DQ’s, I was ultimately 21st.

The 4 days that I spent at Road Atlanta for the East Coast Championships was some of the greatest times I’ve ever spent at a track. It was really terrific hanging out with all my SpecE30 buddies night after night.

The video is full of my usual rousing commentary.
