I wish I knew this before the race weekend  I was going into 5th every time on the front straight…

Ahh so cool, I’m going to get any work done this week :stuck_out_tongue:

Ryan, you weren’t going to go side-by-side with Anthony in the esses again, right, ha! wise move!!!

Great pass on T1, then shifting into 3rd, c’mon, c’mon little car giddy up! It’s awesome! the feeling going up T1 in a SE30 is not for the impatient.

BTW - Harper is Awesome to race with, never got to race with him before, but love it! can’t wait for VIR

Also love the way Curran races, I think he is, in my mind, the widest E30 out there - I freaking love it! During Saturday’s race I had to propel Walsh, so we could get passed him

Ryan, is my pleasure to race with you, always! just bummed that we didn’t get to do it this weekend as much :frowning:

I must admit that while I was next to Anthony in the esses, I flash backed to the prior race and decided to lift. Much too early to try that again!

A very challenging weekend for me and my car. Long story short. Car was complete mess Friday and Saturday. Was able to fix a broken front sway bar end link on Sunday morning which helped out tremendously. Started the championship race 27th and worked my way up to about 16th then fell back to 21st by the checkers. Ended up 19th with the DQ’s. Ran my best lap ever at Road Atlanta during very greasy track conditions and got to race with some really fast drivers. I’m very pleased with how I ran and look forward to racing/learning more with everyone next time out at Daytona. I will not be able to make VIR or NOLA due to military obligations.

I wonder how often it is actually used, but your description of the factors (roar of engines, lack of visibility to the front of the column) even though you knew what was coming, totally validate why it was a disaster waiting to happen. I was watching from the S/F bridge fully expecting someone to blow it, but the extent of the confusion looks like a slapstick scene out of an early silent film, or maybe “The Three Stooges Go Road Racing” – was all the rage in 1937!

Here’s my video from Friday’s race. Started 7th and finished 1st. After Tech inspection, got in line for the Dyno and got DQ’d for opening up my hood to turn on radiator fan, due to the newly installed automatic switch not working. Kids, don’t open up the hood of your car before tech, always go straight there and don’t even let anybody touch your car, only thing you can do is check tire preasures

Sandro, did you have your camera on at impound? if so, you could have used that to show what you did. Might of worked.

#49

My remote wasn’t charged up so I did have it on by the time we went to impound, there, I turned it off, then we were sent to the Dyno, I guess in the end I don’t much to complaint about

Worked out great, little less embarrassing having you start 39th… :woohoo:

Where is the Bedmonds video with the swearing? I need to see and hear it!!!

And, for an amateur hour that rivals Saturday’s start, I present to you my Sunday race:

http://vimeo.com/user20922536/review/105189262/bbea55d8c1

I usually race pretty well, but I picked a really bad time to screw things up. I missed the 1-2 shift on the standing start, and that is just piss poor amateur hour stuff. But then, as I charge through the pack, at the 3:00 mark I had to take it offroad to miss hitting Scott Gress in turn 1, who parked the old girl there, and there was no way I was getting around the inside, so I took her offroad. I then start the charge through the pack again, and the video cuts off before this show is over, but it ends with a mechanical failure a lap or two after the camera dies. I’m still not sure what went wrong, but it just stopped pulling in any gear, so I retired the car rather than do further damage.

All in all, it wasn’t a very focused weekend in the BMW for me, as I had two cars in two different classes there, and really no organization or plan on how to efficiently bring it all together. Looking forward to another race weekend with more food and booze and talking shit in the near future.

Don’t know if they recorded it on racer connect. It basically was this:

GD MF NASA SB MF WTF GD S MF WTF F F F S NASA.

#54

Actually I should be on my GoPro. I’ll look and see. It was quite the hissy fit.

Here is some highlights i made from my SE30 experience, the incident is hard to see but you can sort of see it over the dash (sorry for camera angle just threw the camera in the car didnt check placement): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri8ZWMes30M

Your incident Paul is at :45.

Sandro, I usually do not read any rules, but did read everything the GTS guy sent me for this race, for whatever reason the DO NOT TOUCH YOUR CAR thing was really emphasized…so much I told my girlfriend that she was not to touch my car after the race…she thought that was funny but I stressed to her that no one was to touch the car. I guess he knew they were really looking for that, don’t remember much about it from past nationals…

I saw a post from one of my SM buddies going back and forth (after the fact) about the tech people not letting them take tire pressures after qualifying races. You may want to ask first even for that!! Kind of silly if you ask me.

2007 I was the RD for group J, which was the beloved SE30. After the event, someone came up to me and showed me video of a drivers crew member putting a floor jack and a jack stand in the trunk of a SE30 on the hot pit. I have seen crew purposely decreasing the rear tire pressures because they knew they were going to the dyno. (was not a SE30) This might have something to do with why this rule is in place so strongly. Post race procedures have evolved since then too.
Then there was issues with crew putting things into the cars while sitting in impound. Other people would claim that they were adding weight or making some sort of changes to the car when all they were doing was giving their driver water ect. This rule was aimed to stop that sort of shenanigans.

#59

CCR says you can take tire temps, but says nothing about pressure. I would take that to mean don’t do it, especially when you’re at Nats.

Good rule. Now I understand why, I was just naive. The rule says no adjustments, but as the race director told me, once you open the hood, they can’t tell if you’ve made one or not. Still didn’t get it, until Zintars (my mechanic) told me there could be a way to manipulate something to perform less at the dyno, and he said, if someone would want to do that, it would be smarter to do it from inside the car, hahahaha!
