E30 vs E36

#1

Hey guys I am an “Old Noobie”.
I have been autoxing and was looking at building a SpecE30 car.
I saw NASA is creating a SpecE36 class.
What is the thoughts on this?
If you where starting out would you go E30 or E36?
Are both of these classes going to run together?
Thanks for any info.

NASA has a class called Spec3 (basically extremely spec’ed out E36 3-series cars). Chris Cobetto is the “owner” if I’m not mistaken. He runs the NASA Mid Atl region and also is a national champ SpecE30 guy. Do a search for Spec3 on Bimmerforums.com and I’m sure you’ll get an ear full there (good and bad I would assume).

BMWCCA has a class called SpecE36. And it’s very different than Spec3. Again, do a search on bimmerforums.com and you’ll see tons of info. I think the largest car fields you’ll see would be around 10. Occasionally.

If you’re interested in nail biting, door to door, fender to fender, bumper to bumper racing, SpecE30 is the way to go.

I’d go E30. Obviously you’re on the Spec E30 board :stuck_out_tongue: . I wouldn’t want to wait for for Spec 3 or Spec E36 to get large fields. If you want some of the best closest racing right away its a no brainer if you ask me.

Do yo wanna race or drive around and hope someone else comes out to play…eventually? I’ve done both and it is much more fun (albeit a humbling experience) to have even-up competition to race with. Helpful folks in this series will make sure your car is set up correctly. Just ask for help and it is forthcomming. If you go with the e36 car you’ll be the pioneer.

Good luck.
