discount code for Spec E30 w/ Ireland Engineering

#1

what is it…? I need to get some stuff!!!

Thanks

#2

anybody…?

#3

Never heard of it…

#4

I think the code is ‘bagofrandompartsandnoinstructions’

Check out Chuck at Factory 3 or Bimmerworld, they both give a lot more love to SE30 community. And can probably get whatever you want from IE with less hassle.

Hayden -

NEVER buy anything directly from IE. If you like their stuff - get it from an IE distributor. IE is horrible from a delivery and support standpoint. They do make some good stuff - so get it from somebody who resells it. Maybe Factory3 or Elephant - both good guys.

I have no IE stuff on my SE30 - but I do have some on my Z3 (rear sub frame mounts). What are you looking for - maybe I can help with options.

hahaha !!! i know exactly what u guys mean … i ususally ordr thru BMA for my IE stuff (i have springs, camberplates,RSM’s,urethane motor mounts)and never had a problem … i was interested in f&r strut braces and was looking for a price break from website… I was able to work with Erick @ KO performance and he helped out w/pricing & shipment!!!

somehow i remember talk of a spec e30 discount being offered when ordering from IE… oh well…

i was seriously considering the f&r sways 25mm & 22mm (not spec legal) and the rear subframe rebuild (camber/toe/subframebushing/trailing arm bushing) but i’m very very wary of the DIY install…
do the sways make THAT MUCH of a difference?
i was interested in f&r strut braces
Tell me you meant F&R Sway Bars…

You know, those bars that go between the shock towers in the rear that you can buy don’t do anything, right? The top of the rear shock towers are not a suspension stress point, unlike the front. The springs mount to the trunk floor - that is where the suspension meets the rear of the car, not the top of the shock tower. The only thing that goes on there is an attachment point for the shock - not a stress point of any consequense.

However, they do make a nice clothesline for baby clothes…

LOL

You may want to check out AGKMotorsport.com on the bushing replacement - I have their stuff - very happy with it. Also - check out the very cool shifter over there.

Interesting point, I know it’s be argued that a rear strut brace doesn’t help much. I’m not an engineer and don’t know for sure but the rules allow it so I added it. Will say this though - at the weld seam on my front Sparco strut brace where it meets the cross bar the paint chipped off at the weld after I put it on more than a year ago - presumably from deformation due to stress under load. It makes me think it does something to stiffen up the suspension points, even if small.

interesting. I understood that the Rear Shock Mount (RSM) has always been addressed and replaced so as to upgrade and strengthen that attachment point. i’m no engineer, but wouldn’t a Rear tower brace attached between those two points, help to distribute whatever stress that may be created? Also, i understood the the primary job of the springs, the rears in this case, are to support the weight of the car, and primary control of up-dowm movement is done by the shocks. They both work together to control weight and up-down movemnt. lateral movement and stiffness of the car, i would think, is improved when addressed with use of sway bars, tower bars, roll cages, chassis braces, essentially anything that attaches the left of the car to the right of the car.

lol-- i hope i’m a making some kind of sense

I know what you mean. But think of it this way - the pivot point of the suspension is where the weight of the car meets the suspension. In the front, that is the top of the strut towers. In the back, it is not the top of shock structure - it is under the floor of the trunk. This is where the spring meets the body, and where the bulk of the weight of the car is supported.

It won’t hurt to put the bar in. But - as a test, I’d love to tie a string between the shock towers in the rear, put a video camera on it and do a couple hot laps. If the string goes slack, they are moving independently.

The attachment point should be reinforced - it is only sheet metal holding that shock in - the Z3 plates are legal (as I understand and interpret the rules). They are like 5 bucks at the dealer.

#12

thats a great idea… I think concrete evidence like that would help folks when deciding on a set up that delivers results …

#13

Not so fast on the concrete evidence piece of that puzzle.

Assuming the above mentioned “string” has the ability to go slack while under load on the track, whether or not the string actually behaves as such would entirely be depend upon the cage that was in the race car. There are many different styles of cages in the S-E30 paddock, some basic, some quite detailed/triangulated.

If you want to run this experiment one race weekend, find two different cars, one with a basic cage tied into the spring pick-up points and one detailed cage tied in another place and see what happens if you video said string in each car.

#14

another good point, as of right now, my car is not caged at all…i have that ‘wet noodle’ chassis. ::runs to go find some string and a camera::

#15

Better idea…

Hayden - come down to Homestead next weekend. I’m instructing, as is Natalie. We’ll get the string, and strap you in the passenger seat - backwards. I’ll drive around screaming that we’re going to hit something/someone, and I’ll see if you can continue to watch the string.

You have to clean up the seat after the session, OK?

#16

GREAT !! one better … I saw that publix has a sale on ‘Depends undergarments’… we will conduct that experiment without the hassle of clean up… wait a minute … is that a testament to how bad both Natalie & yourself really drive?
