Degreasing tank near Raleigh, NC

#1

I’ve pulled my engine and will be transplanting it into a donor e car. While its out I wanted to clean it up a bit, and I am trying to find someone with a degreasing tank I can dunk some parts into. Anyone know of a shop with a tank near Raleigh, NC?

Thanks

Don’t hot tank the block. The chemicals used can destroy the intermediate shaft bearings. Those bearings can be replaced, but doing so requires reaming and jigs to fit them

Where did you find bearings?

You get the bearings from BMW. They won’t show up as being available, but your dealer can order them by part number (11-11-1-280-863 & 11-11-1-264-196). The bearings must be reamed after installation and that is the big problem when replacing them. The ideal way to do it is with a pair of custom made piloted reamers. But there are alternative methods. One is to bore out the bearings in a lathe for 0.0005" clearance, press them into the block, and fit with a brake cylinder hone.

not going to degrease the block. Just some of the easy to pull costmetic stuff… valve covers, oil pan, stuff like that.

I don’t plan on rebuilding the motor this year. So I won’t be tearing it down that far.
