correct me if I am wrong...

9.3.1.2.6. Rocker arms may be replaced and must be of the exact same shape and size of
the factory piece.

3.5. “Replaced” means that the item may be replaced with items meeting or exceeding OEM
specifications.

this means that these are legal now?

Which one of those are the “exact same shape and size” as the factory piece?

#3

replaced is defined as

3.5. “Replaced” means that the item may be replaced with items meeting or exceeding OEM
specifications.

so now instead of buying rockers that are already on the market, guys will have custom made ones with better motion ratios that are the same shape and size??

costs just went up…

I think you are correct.

I think the rule is an open invitation.I don’t think anyone (yet) is that irresponsible.

I think for $1100+ dollars I can purchase two junkyard engines.

I think with a horsepower rule it should not matter.

I think that I did not see such a horsepower rule.

Speaking of horses…I think this one should be returned to the barn before it escapes.

“I think” I’m glad the rules cleared up all the problem areas.

#6

Rockers have been open…

#7

Hey Skeen, I’m glad you chimed in on this…

As a noob to this series, I was under the impression that guys were using stock rockers…

Without giving away any national champion secrets, lol is there something already on the market legal and better than stock?

3.5. “Replaced” means that the item may be replaced with items meeting or exceeding OEM specifications.

Takes affect if not superceeded by any other rule, which in this case is governed by:

9.3.1.2.6. Rocker arms may be replaced and must be of the exact same shape and size of the factory piece.

That implies to me that you could play with the material (titanium rockers anyone?), but the geometry has to be the same as the OE. I doubt there’s much, if any, advantage to be gained here.

this is correct - you can’t stop reading the rule at the word “replaced”. Billet rockers are not the same shape as stock. If the pivot point is moved, they are not the exact same shape.
We have opinions from engine builders that lighter weight versions of rocker arms that are an exact same shape and size match will not provide any benefit.

I think practically everyone is using stock rockers, if you want to spend a small fortune on fancy rockers more power to you, I don’t think it will make an ounce of difference. So don’t worry about it.

VAC has upgraded rockers, but they are expensive.

3.5. “Replaced” means that the item may be replaced with items meeting or exceeding OEM specifications.

9.3.1.2.6. Rocker arms may be replaced and must be of the exact same shape and size of the factory piece.

Hmmm those seem really vague…I’m making some of these:

They exceed OEM specs, which is legal (is there a rule saying they can’t be roller as they maintain the shape?). As for being the exact shape, what are the tolerances?

#13

Roller rockers are awesome. Vague? There’s nothing vague about that. They are not the same “shape.”

#14

Not to be disrespectful, but is “exact same shape and size” really that hard to understand? Of course a roller rocker isn’t the same shape as stock.

Soo every rocker has to be ±.0000000? Where is the line drawn on exact?

#16

How about “and may not enhance performance in any way.” Does that clear it up for you?

#17

What’s wrong with OEM rockers? Properly adjusted, they’re pretty darn robust. I have had my share of busted rockers, but it was from lack of maintenance (adjustment).

A MINOR change in the offset of the rockers can make a HUGE difference in power - kind of like having a hot cam…so why even open the door? The stock ones work. Period.

Stick with the philosophy. Cheap and equal racing.

#18

Yes, rockers have been open for the past few years.

I do not know of any competitor that has spent the money for the rockers.

Close the barn door?

There may be some push back from those that have to remove their $250 fuel pressure regulators. I can’t imagine the push back should these be deleted in the future.

I feel for those making the rules that have to deal with some of this trivial trash.

Good rules for 2009. Let’s move forward.

Is that a rule? Sounds like you just made that one up. This is a rule:

Yup, you’re right. I was citing the previous edition of the rule. My mistake. Knock yourself out with the roller rocker sales.
