Consummated!

I finally got to drive the car! After all the work and the wondering whether I was doing the right thing by putting the time and $ into the car, I rolled to the grid at Rockingham on Saturday morning and all I could think about were all the bolts I had turned and the parts I had replaced, and wonder how a 200,000+ mile engine would perform on a car I had never driven over 40 mph.

The car performed flawlessly! I put 100+ miles on it this weekend and nothing
broke! The engine ran great (no oil usage), the car felt stable at speed, through the turns and under braking. I was shocked at how little pedal pressure it took to stop the car as compared to my Z3. You have to literally leg-press the brake pedal in the Z3, but the e30 requires so little pedal pressure - very nice! I am 100% comfortable in the car - my seating position is perfect. It was also nice getting a lot of positive feedback from other drivers at the track on
how nice the car turned out.

All that is left before a log book inspection is kill switch and fire supression. Then comp school at VIR in Feb.

I’ll attest to that Steve. And thanks for all the good instruction this past weekend. How’s your knee?

Steven,
Glad to hear you are happy with the car and it ran without any problems. I know exactly what you are saying about being worried about all of the nuts and bolts on the car. Its all I could think about before my first time out in my car. I could help but wonder if I missed torqueing that one crucial nut. Hope to see you at the PCA event at VIR in December.

The knee is fine Robert - thanks for asking. A word of advice to everyone - don’t try to step from the back of the truck to the trailer with wet shoes! There will be non-skid on my trailer everywhere I might possible step in the very near future. I’d advise everyone else to do the same.

It’s a miracle that my weekend did not end up with a trip to the hospital!

Steven:

Thanks for the good report.

Yes, these little cars really are a lot of fun and I’m glad yours turned out well.
