CMP was a total blast. The weather turned out to be great. It was so warm Sunday there were guys walking around in shorts.

My qual Sat sucked so I started somewhere in the back. As it worked out tho I had a blast fighting with Colan and BillZ. I was pretty ate up tho. I got sideways a couple times and scared myself out of 10yrs growth. I also overcooked a couple turns and seriously embarrassed myself. Bill got sideways after the kink which was pretty interesting. As far as I recall, Colan was the only one that had his car under control the whole time.

Colan would later lose control when his wife called and said “come home.”

Sat night festivities were awesome. We hung out around a fire and laughed over misadventures for hours. AR cooked us up steak and salmon. Aaron decided that he’d put his dad down in a drinking contest. He won’t be trying that again for a while.

Sunday qual had some struggles. A bunch of us got dq’d for scrubbing tires under green. CMP is my worst track so I was quite surprised to do a 1:53. I was lucky I didn’t get dq’d for scrubbing too, my brain was on autopilot as I turned out of the grid on to the track.

The dq’s put some of our fastest guys in the back. Standing start. I started 3rd but within only a couple seconds Sandro came charging thru. How does he do that? As I approached 8 I could see AR 2 cars back with a glint in his eye. I turned back to what I was doing, but then as I swooped into the apex I caught a glimpse of motion and there was AR trying to pass 2 cars in 8. Me and my shiny new sheetmetal when into survival mode and focused on trying to help us both survive. It slowed me up so much that 2 more cars passed me.

I ended up in 6th behind Rob and Paul. I wasn’t figuring on challenging Rob, I just wanted to run fast laps so I could stay ahead of Craig behind me. Traffic worked thru us and I managed to avoid any particularly awful mistakes. We got red flagged when the 3rd (4th?) Thunder Roadster engine blew for the weekend. The whiteflag was a couple laps after the restart. Rob tried to take 8 from Paul and bumped him. This put Paul sideways right in front of me. Lady luck was with me and I got by on the outside w/o losing position and it got me by Rob also. I managed to do a couple more laps w/o screwing up and got 4th, which is about as good as it gets for this mid-packer.

It was really a fun weekend. Those guys that chose not to do the season opener because of weather reports or because “it’s only CMP”, missed a lot of fun.

I brought the boys (10, 10, & 11). They spent much of the weekend karting. It was way cool that AR and Sandro brought their kids too. Big success.

Hate I missed it…was on vacation

CMP is my favorite track to race on, no kidding. Corners are slow enough that when things get crazy you get a chance to survive… Also a great place to camp, glad yall got the weather.

Such a blast at a shitty track! Dang it they only paved and charged each one of us $100 per event, it would save us hundreds in tires.
I started the weekend with a fresh set of tires and did a 1:49.3 in warm-up, during qualifying and really trying I did a 1:50.3… whaaaa?! But, besides all that, we had great fun, got to race really hard with AR Saturday, and with Ryan W on Sunday, trying to make it 2 wide thru the kink a few times, that s**t is fun  I have great video of the last 2 laps of Sunday’s race with 2 TR going at it real hard, Sonny and somebody renting Randy’s car, I’ll post tonight.

Oh dang, I just saw Al’s post, he is right about the track, it’s really good racing and you can save your car from a bad accident, even in tough situations. But that’s no pavement, during the red flag I opened up my door and all I saw was sand paper made out of granite gravel.

Enzo, Lucas and the Gress Boys, Jefferson, Thomas and Peter had a blast, working on their karts, I can see them racing with us in a few years!

To all, make sure you got a fresh diff and new tires next time you come to CMP.

How about we do something special for the Friday fun race at Rd Atlanta. Australian pursuit maybe?!

Has a blast this weekend! Hopefully this marks my return to running a full schedule.

On Saturday I qualified 10th and worked my way up to 8th where I ran most of the race, until my aforementioned incident in the kink that cost me two spots. Had great battles with Gress and Fabeny for several laps…

On Sunday, I started 5th, but as I stopped at the grid for the start, I got distracted by a couple of flickering lights on my dash (ABS and brake fluid), which caused me to hesitate for half a second on the start. Ended up costing me 6 positions by turn 3. :frowning: Nonetheless, I fought back up to 8th and had a great battle with Aaron for several laps at the end. I ended up beating him on a pass in turn 14 on the last lap when two Thunder Roadsters wrecked right in front of us at corner exit. If we hadn’t gotten stuck right behind the E36 and 944 on the restart, I think we might of had something for the next group of SpecE30s.

So happy to be back racing…!!

As Scott said, the weather was awesome! My 2015 car prep consisted of rolling the car off the trailer from 2014 season and mounting some fresh rubber. Unfortunately, Sandro, Ryan and A.R. showed up with fresh tires… and diffs, motors, talent, food, booze, etc in expectation of epic battles with each other for P1. I guess Sandro learned the lesson about tires last year at CMP when I schooled him and grabbed the win. :silly:

Saturday:
Qualified with a 1:52 flat which was good enough for P4 grid. I was hoping to get into the 1:51s :frowning:
Rolling start… quickly traded swirlies and bumped mirrors with Rob in T2, but luckily it was my driver side so it was easy to reach out and fix during the race. Ended up chasing Rob the entire race and finish a couple seconds behind him for P5.
Sat Night: Sandro tried to get everyone smashed with his cranberry moonshine and bags full of mini liquor bottles, but only the innocent fell victim (RAAWLF Motorsports) .

Sunday: (Woke up early for once without a hangover or a ripped shirt!)
Standing start (yuck)…I warned everyone to expect my usual 1st to 2nd shift fail but I took it easy on the start and managed to have success. Ryan did a good job of nudging forward after his launch and I chased him for a couple laps with no real progress. Then as expected I see Chupacabra pop in my rear view mirror a few laps in (took him a while to work his way up from the rear of the pack.) He motored past me on the back straight and I tucked behind him at T8, and managed to keep up for a couple laps. Then AR finally caught up and got by me to go challenge Ryan and Sandro for P1. After about 10 laps I was squarely in P4, about 5 seconds from the pack leaders and had a comfortable 10+ second lead on Rob. As expected, the Thunder Roaches started scattering on and off track with typical motor failures which put us under red flag for a good 15 minutes. Once the race resumed (with only enough time for a couple green laps), Rob got a his chance to make a move for P4. Unfortunately he dive bombed me in T8… I saw it coming and gave him 3/4 room at the apex and expected to go side by side but Rob punted me before that happened. I ended up ‘eskewed’ 180° and rolling backwards in the middle of T8 exit and then watched the rest of the field split to the left and right as I looked at them head-on (luckily without and contact). This also gave Gress the opportunity to take P4 from both me and Rob. I finished the race in P10. Rob owned up to the incident and after watching the video Pantas moved him back to P11. Looks like 2015 is going to have some epic SpecE30 battles!

Wow. Moral of the story, don’t race with Thunder Roadsters.

Sandro your car control is just stunning.

#9

Wow those thunder roadster guys are out of control!

I really enjoyed being back at the track with the E30 gang! Except for a frigid Saturday morning the weather was perfect. Thanks to Ranger and AR for great food all weekend!
My Sunday race had two exciting moments: A surprising bump in the rear from AR on lap 1 just past the kink in heavy traffic (no harm done); then late in the race I’m getting into Turn 8 with a few others and the flag guy starts waving yellow like crazy - at turn exit I see there is the sweet front of an E30 facing us, mid track, shrouded by a cloud of dust. What the heck!? Fortunately, we all had time to get around Paul without incident…
Finally, cranberries and drunk crows will enter the great store of E30 lore.

Could not have asked for better weather at CMP in February!!! Had a great weekend. Finished third both days behind Sandro and AR. Two very tough competitors! Saturday night was a total blast but I would like to amend the comment about RAAWLF Motorsports. Only half the team can take on that new name on.

Great racing with everyone. Hope to see a ton of cars at RA!

I had awesome experience this weekend winning, racing, drinking and talking shit with all my racing brothers. Sandro and I had a 45min battle on sat with him making a great move on me for the win on the last lap(great racing jefe)

I had a terrible start Sunday morning, loosing my alternator belt on the first lap of qualifying which cased me to start the race from back of the field. I had to make some aggressive moves(forgive me Scott,John) to keep Sandro and Ryan in my sight. I had one more aggressive move to make on Sandro and Ryan to take over the lead and claim my first win.

video coming soon…

AR, congratulations on the first win. The podium finishes are hard to come by with the level of competition that is in this race group. Great to watch you guys . You all are amazing.

Some one needs to talk with the TR drivers about courteous driving and not screwing up someone else’s race:sick:

#15

yea the TR guys seem to especially go apeshit at CMP, kinda the nature of the beast because of the track.

Someone really needs to remind them to be under control re-entering the track…

Yes, this was quite possibly the most fun I’ve had in a race in 5 years. Had a great battle with Bill and Scott. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite have the speed to get my spot back from Scott before the end of the race. Learned a lot and had a ton of fun.

As for losing control – maybe if I drove with more abandon I might have gotten the best of Mr. Gress!

Looking forward to a great season.

Here is my version of the last two laps on Sunday. You have probably already seen Sandro’s, so it is pretty close.

Sunday Video
http://youtu.be/J9ff2LZLJFY

As for the TR’s, I knew the restart late in the race was going to get dicey with both the SE30 guys and the TR guys. The top three SE30’s were smack dab in the middle of the front runners for TR. All were fighting hard for their own positions. I would guess that the TR guys are saying the damn SE30 guys should have made it easier for them to get by but we didn’t because we had our own battle going on. I guess that is just part of racing with multiple classes. I would feel different if the SE30 guys were battling for the front position and a couple TR from the back of the pack fought like that, but this wasn’t the case this time. In fact, the Saturday race for SE30 had a single TR battle with the front runners for the entire race. He was in last place in TR and could have backed off the battles going on in SE30.

Also, I hope AR puts his video up for Sunday. He made a pass on Sandro and I at the hairpin that made my hair stand up. Absolutely spectacular move. Something I don’t have the kahuna’s for!!! Great job AR on your first win.

The worse thing is that Sonny and the #94 TR were not battling for position, the #94 was a lap down, lmao!!!:woohoo:

I think these are the two that passed Rob and me during the Red flag on the front straight right in front on start-stop tower. I expected the flaggers to report and disqualify them. Both Rob and I have video proof. Amazing considering they DQeq several SpecE30s for scrubbing tires on the qual outlap.

I think I should email Pantas the video.

Yeap ^^^

I’m gonna slap myself for saying this, but I think it’s more fun to drive a TR at CMP than a door slammer

Let’s start a “Pave CMP fund” - that track would be so much more fun with tar. Or at least paint it black, daaang!
