CMP Hotel info

I’ve been to CMP three times now…each time I stayed in the larger towns away from the track. Drive time is just too much. This time I’m going to try the Executive Inn @ Kershaw. I hear that it’s decent and fairly inexpensive.

If your like me and going to skip Shenandoah, it’s probably a good idea to make reservations for CMP now.

Here’s the contact info for the Executive Inn @ Kershaw if anyone else is interested.

That is where Staff stays. It is Ok, just a roadside type motel.

I have stayed there a few times, the most memorable was upon returning from a margarita fest in Kershaw I was going to take a dip in the pool, and the manager came running out in the parking lot yelling "The pool is contaminated!!!, A small child vomited in it!"

It was classic.

Last year we camped at the track. Carlton’s famous "Breakfast Cheeseburgers" kept me going all day.

Seriously, the weather is usually fairly warm by then and it really is very convenient to be right there, especially since there is really nothing else to see for 30 miles.

It is true…that place is in the middle of nowhere…and it is flat…

Here are my Executive Inn stories.

A couple of years ago, we went down for the inaugural event at CMP- it turned out to be on the short course because they were having trouble getting the back part of the track completed due to crossing the wetlands or something.

We called the Exec Inn a couple of months in advance to make reservations. Spoke to a nice guy who took all of our info. When we arrived at the hotel to check in, they had some trouble finding our reservation. Turned out that the guy who took our info was working the night shift a couple of nights after we called, and they found him dead in his chair the next morning!! I guess he had his own system for keeping records that they couldn’t decipher…

We got our room, and met up with some other folks for dinner at the local Mexican restuarant. As we were eating dinner, one of the other guys asked how our room was at the Inn- he said his room was OK, except it was kind of strange that the whole floor was covered with linoleum!! He assumed that all the rooms were the same (they were not). Not sure what room number that is, but I’ve since talked to a couple of other folks who have stayed in the same room and commented about the linoleum floor!!

Our experience at the Exec Inn has been pretty good, overall. It’s just your basic roadside motel, if you’re expecting a Hilton, better keep looking.
