ChumpCar and the bucket list

#1

Chumpcar is doing a helova lot of events next year. If you’ve not done one before, they are kind of a cross between a Lemons race and a NASA enduro. Some of the cars are silly, but there aren’t the constant hassles with black flags. Far more racing and far less foolishness. Plus, you can even run your SpecE30 in some special category that they run. Here’s a link to their 2012 calendar.

Two street races in Mexico? Holy shit. Lots of big time tracks here. Too bad no Laguna Seca and Watkins Glen.

Wow, three events in FL! First one in early March…time to start prepping!

#3

I didn’t realize we could run our SpecE30s in those races.

#4

…at your own risk. There are a wider range of driving talents than you normally experience in NASA. Some people just make some dumb (-er than normal) moves.

#5

Road America in April. I definitely need a defrost setup. If you had the only newly build motor you were going to get for a few years would you run a long enduro like this.

#6

Find a team that is looking for someone that is competant behind the wheel and perfectly happy to pay their share. That would be better then the pounding your SpecE30 would take.

There’s a lot more to wear out on your car beyond the simple mechanical tolerances of head and bottom end. At least when a car spends it’s life doing mostly NASA weekends it gets a look over between events. You will find problems in those “look overs” and think, "man, if I’d a been in a long enduro < > would have failed and that would have been really bad. A recent example is Damien’s caliper coming off at RR last Sep and taking the whole corner of the car with it before it parted company with him. And it could have been a lot worse. Another example is my engine #5, a fine engine, that was killed by a small coolant hose leak in a 8hr enduro.

#7

we’ll be taking first place at the 2012 chumpcar 24hr vir race. you heard it here first.

#8

We will probably be dusting off the old Bug Eyed Blowfish for a few events next year.

#9

Chump is fun but the fact that they specifically allow contact makes me a little nervous. I’ve run one event that was on an awful version of Auto Club out here and will be doing Laguna Seca this weekend. In a Lemons car, not my SE30.

Love the Chumpcar!
We won the Auto club speedway race last month in our 2197 lb lemons e30! We had a blast doing a handful of LeMons races, but not as much fun racing. Chumpcar is the way to go for good fun racing with your buds!

We are racing Laguna Seca in December, and I hope running for the west coast championship next year.

We need more cars though, not the 150 they get for LeMons, but more than the 28 they had at Auto Club last month.
