My first instructor gave me a ride and it was an eye opening experience. My next instructor was running TT and didn’t have a passenger seat, but said if he had one he would definitely take me for a ride. My third instructor gave me a ride and taught me some new lines to try. My 4th instructor was Don and his “partner” still has his car up north or I am sure he would have given me a ride. A ride is definitely great, and I am not opposed to any rule for a passenger seat.

To get back on topic, it seems that some people want to keep the passenger seat, so I’d ask if we could still drop 100 lbs and get down to weight with a passenger seat in. I could argue that if you want a passenger seat, put it back in for DE’s, but let’s just consider if the cars could still get down to weight with a seat. I think that most should. And, if you take your seat in and out frequently, it should not more than a 15 minute ordeal.

Where do we stand with the poll? Last I saw, the vote was at dropping 75 or 100 lbs. What’s the process to have this proposed as a rule change? If we’re going to do this, I’m sure that most of us would like to use the off-season to strip the crap out of our cars.

The poll ended several pages ago and I posted results. Last month I sent a list of rule change requests up the chain of command. Among them was a request for weight reduction, which included a link to this thread.

Lets be clear tho, a rule change request is only going to succeed if it makes thing cheaper, safer, easier, or more fair. When we talk about what “we could do”, and how this or that wouldn’t be much inconvenience (in your imagination), we’re guaranteed to get the request denied.

Getting my passenger seat in and out is a pita. Any rule change that even comes close to creating pita’s is a nogo. That’s not what the series is about. The series is about cheap, easy, fair, grassroots racing fun ,and serial engine changes.

negative on the last path. drop a 100lbs and I bet most cars could still meet that weight with a passenger seat.

i have full passenger accommodations and still have to add 90# of ballast, and i’m not exactly a flyweight myself. adding ballast costs money, is a hassle, and is potentially less safe than having a lower min weight and no ballast. lowering the min weight is a no brainer.
