Can a car still run and

decline points if it does not meet the specs? To clarify, if my car meets/exceeds all the safety requirements, but maybe it doesn’t have the correct exhaust, etc. can I still race knowing full well that I’m not racing for points? Just a questions, please don’t jump all over me.

Come join us at a NASA SE event and we’ll try to explain all of the fine details. To answer your question, the class is called spec e30 fun and you’re welcomed to run with us. Regards, Robert Patton

Hey Robert, I’m dropping by today to give back that starter and your engine hoist rod. Sorry it’s taken me this long.

I too, would be interested in running w/ the SPEC E30 group for fun w/o worrying about the technical side of things. My car is probably more than 90% legal, but I really just want to get out there and run for fun and not worry about points at this time.

My only concern is that if you get involved in an on track "race" with someone who is legit that you have to endeavor to not affect the outcome of the race.

I wouldn’t care about finishing position in my case, but if you are racing someone who does care about finishing order or the points race for the season and you are preventing them from chasing down and passing a competitor who is legal you have done harm to legit competitors.

For example, you may have a 25+hp motor, but can’t drive. Therefore you can stay ahead of a car that legitimately may be able to catch the car ahead of you, but for you being in the way.

That would be the biggest issue I can see.

I suppose it is like racing Miatas and 944…yeah it can be fun, but get the heck out of their race if you could affect an outcome.

Not too speak for Carter, but I know this issue came up in last years Rd Atl race. At the time the policy was that you could race but if the car wasn’t in complicance with the rules then you wouldn’t be awarded points or podiums.

We had one entrant register as Spec E30 and then take a DQ. This is really up to carter. The cars would be GTS and in the same run group with Mid Atlantic

NASA Mid Atlantic allowed an "E30 Fun" class last year, which was fine with Spec E30. With us racing in the Autobahn Group this year, the non Spec E30-E30’s ran in GTS.

We’d love to see more E30’s on the track and obviously we want them to be Spec E30 legal. If they aren’t, come race in GTS or a pro sedan class, or E30 Fun and hang out with us in the paddock.
