Cage Builder Resource Thread

#1

I called Chris Schimmel yesterday (14 Dec 07) and found he has a 3 month waiting list. I don’t know that I can wait that long.

I’ve spent the last hour searching the forums and found these cage builders referenced. Please reply to this thread with any recommended cage builders across the Nation. This will be a valuable resource to the future Spec E30ers out there.

I think Sam Neave, did Mike Skeen and Steven Canterbury’s cage. If I had it to do all over again (and thankfully, I don’t), I’d go with Sam over Chris.

Nothing against Chris. I think he did a great job on all 3 of the BeerTech cars. But Sam’s work is some of the finest I’ve seen. Plus he’s fast and no more expensive than anyone else.

Just my 2 cents.

In the Atlanta area J3 racing will do it.

Akron/Cleveland -

Mark McMahon built my cage - unbleliveable workmanship - He is up on the rules of all the big series (SCCA, BMWCCA, NASA, PCA), so you don’t need to worry about legality (but, I do have to add a door bar because of the NASA rule change - can’t blame him for that). I could not be happier with the quality and price.

Not my car, but this guy’s picks are much better/closer than mine. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458294

Definitely go with Sam Neave. I don’t know what his work load is like right now, but give him a call. He was able to get me in last year before he anticipated too, so his wait list might not be as long as he suggests.

Dave Ellingsworth can be reached at rennsales@earthlink.net

He did Dave Pallister, Mike D’s, and Eric Ruperts cages; many others in Porsche club. He also does Grand Am cup, etc.

Got us in and out quickly. Located in Virginia Beach.

You should add Kirk Racing (just north or Birmingham AL) to the list. He built & installed the cage for the GRM Spec E30. I got a cage from him and had it installed at a local shop that had a lot of experience w/cages.

For what is worth RRT in Dulles had an open house a couple of weeks ago which I attended. They had a PA tagged car in the shop getting a cage put in especially for SpecE30. The car was stripped by owner and delivered for the cage install. It was a great looking setup, welds looked real good, design looked strong and it was almost complete. All that to say they may??? have an opening real soon.

Greatest thread ever.

In West Chester, PA (near Philadelphia), there is Kalani Gohara of K-FAB Rollcages, 610-659-8129. He did my killer cage and my buddy’s E30 cage, though he specializes in Porsche (but has done all different brands). He does completely custom work… you are responsible to specify the cage for rules compliance. He can do bare bones or sky’s the limit (used to build prototype frames for auto manufacturers).

If any of you are watching the SCCA Runoffs on Speed this week, you can see Sam Neave at the end of the G Production Race credited as building the winning car.

That was a fast car relative to the rest of the field. He embarrased everyone out there, in a 1972 Toyota Corrola no less.

How about those wild rides through the mud by the guy in the old Honda.
